Serendipity

I do believe that some of my favorite times growing up were the times spent at either my Nanny's house or my Grandma Katy and Grandpa George's house. Nothing like a little break away from the parents..and vice versa!

G'ma Katy and G'pa George lived in a modest little white house that was at the end of a long slopping driveway. A few yards away was a creek - of course we were never allowed to go down to the creek either because we might "fall in" or be inundated by the "hippies" that hung out there (though I never saw any whilst sneaking down there. wink.)

G'ma did not have a lot of stuff around her house, but the things she did have are etched in my mind. I still remember most everything. There was a cool upright piano with a honky tonk peddle, a gray swirled top and chrome table and chairs (a retro collectible now), a green tint photo from the 1915 San Francisco World's Fair that hung over her couch (I use to stare at it and wonder what it was), a wonderful vanity table with a large circle mirror, her parakeet that we would talk and whistle to for hours on end, a huge oak tree that stood on the east side of the property that the sun would come up over in the morning, our family garden that we grew for several years, Grandpa's reinvented school bus turned into an RV (without the Partridge Family colors) and a little Humpty Dumpty salt and pepper shaker that sat on her kitchen window sill.

After my G'ma and G'pa passed on, I did get some things that she had. My mom has the World's Fair picture, which she said I get to take home on the next trip to her home. (smiles!!)

What happened to the Humpty Dumpty? Nobody knew.

About four years ago I was at Marsha's shop (Laura Bells) and there was this little Humpty Dumpty salt and pepper shaker!!!!!! She had just brought it in that day. I asked her where she had found it and she said at one of the local flea markets. Could it have been Grandma Katy's? Who knows..it looked just like the one she had!! What I do know is that I had to buy it and take it home with me. Such sweet serendipity!

PS: The music seems to be a hit so I uploaded a few more of some of my favorite "booty shakin'" music. Get your groove on!!!

Happy Saturday!

Hi Becky!
I love stories about family and this one was no exception. How cool that you found the salt & pepper shakers. I would just think that they were your grandmothers and leave it at that. Have a great afternoon!

Love,
Julie

Becky - what a great story - I could picture the whole set up! When I got to the part about finding the salt & pepper shaker I got a bit of tingling! What a sensation it must of given you when you found it! I really can't help but wonder if it was your g'ma - it is pretty unique and very coincidental! Lovies!!!!! Esther

You got me bustin' a move again, getting pretty good at it too! (not really, I am a terrible dancer). Next time I come over I'll have to wear my dancing shoes.

The second I saw that Humpty Dumpty I practically jumped for joy right out of my chair. He is just too precious for words. SO CUTE!

And then your story about him, well, of course I got chills. What a great find!

Melissa

That was a nice story. A true one! Well I always felt like there was at least a thousand years difference between me and my grandparents. I couldn't go barefooted there...I'd get worms! Funny how they try to protect us. I love the s and p shakers!

What lovely memories and what a fortuitous find! It's these sort of finds which mean so much, yet can cost so little!

Have a great Sunday!

I loved going to my Nana and Papa's house- I was a princess there, and my Nana would serve my Papa and I Puffed Rice cereal for breakfast that he called "Puffa Puffa Rice". She would tuck me in bed and I would count the blankets she would lay over me...1...2..3...4...5...6...!It was the best of times. Thanks for reminding me of my memories.
