My First Homemade Tannenbaum

We had an October wedding in 1982 - yes...eons ago...and all of a sudden I was faced with the task of deciding how I was going to decorate our first Christmas tree. Our home was simple and humble and we barely had enough money to live on, but I wanted our tree to be beautiful and FULL of ornaments - although I would have even settled for a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
So what does a young bride do? I created....and created....and created. I cannot tell you how many of these yo-yo ornaments I made but I filled up our tree with these, cookie cutouts and strung popcorn with cranberries. My sweet husband even helped string the many feet of popcorn - bless his heart. Our tree was sweet and simple and one I will never forget.
It really is the simple things in life that bring us joy.

Those early years of marriage are so sweet. I wouldn't want to go back but I wish I'd enjoyed the moment more. Mimi

Oh Becky it's too cute when you speak my mother tonque like in Tannenbaum, even if I can't hear it, just read lol :)

I can imagine your first Tannenbaum looked very beautiful the way you described it, what a pity that you have no photo, would have loved to see it and your hand made ornaments are so country style!

Warmest wishes from cold Germany sends you
Carola

They are still bright and pretty, do you still use them? I remember putting up the tree our first Christmas and realizing we didnt have any ornaments! Earl's mom showed up at the door with a big box of ornaments that she had collected just for him over the years and some of her oldies for good measure. I remember being so grateful and we still use some of them.

Oh how very wonderful, I cannot even remember my first tree as a married woman .. Sad to say... But as Tracey said, it is not the presence of money that brings joy..... It is in the simple things of life.. We all need to be reminded of that from time to time...........

Happy Thursday girl ....

Those are wonderful, Becky! We did the same back in 1980, I had all these funky cross stithed ornies that I put inside large BROWN plastic curtain rings for frames, and hung them on our tree ~ you know, I still put them out, reminds me of way back then . . . . . lovin' your Christmas Stuff Missy!!

Hi Becky,

Yes, it is the sweet memories of things like this that really do bring us the greatest joy. I cherish the ornaments on my tree that my chidren made. Our first Christmas my husband and I put wooden spoons on the top of our tree with our names on them, because we fit together like two spoons in a drawer. I love your homemade things.
