For quite sometime I have been planning in my head how I wanted to remodel our 1980’s laundry room in our home.
The quest: a farmhouse looking laundry room with white bead board on the walls, an industrial sink,
open shelving and a textured ceiling – and accessorized with vintage items.
For about a year I collected vintage bits and bobs
that were found whilst out perusing flea markets, estate sales and antique stores.
Some items ended up not being used because I wanted more of a minimal look,
so these will be placed elsewhere in the house –
and some will be given away here on the blog.
More to follow at the end of this post.

Old galvanized scoops, mason jars, a laundry room sign (that was made by my friend Marcia), and a
funky metal corner
shelf with lots of chippy paint will find their spot in the room.
Everything purchased was done on a budget
and the IVORY soap box was a score
for $10.00 at a flea market. It will
sit next to the sink and hold laundry soap, towels, etc.
One of my favorite finds were a pair of
these rusty metal light fixtures that
were a great find at an estate
sale over the summer. Ready for the price?
Just $4.00 each! LOVE that!
And the black metal shelf brackets –
including the small amounts of rust on
them – were just $2.00 each.
Here’s the fun part – the homely reveal.
See the missing door…the doors were starting to fall off – a sign?
Yes! Time to pretty up the room
that I spend a lot of time in.
Below is the finished room with floor
to ceiling bead board, a hand
textured ceiling and open
shelving that I absolutely am loving.
I didn’t get a picture of the original sink
and laminate as my husband
was quick to rip it out and work on
the plumbing for our new stainless steel sink.
I searched for months for a good
industrial sink and found the Griffin
scullery sink at Home Depot. It is HUGE!
The sink stands on four legs, which
makes the room appear larger, too. The antique
mirror over the sink was a recent find for $22.00 – just what I was looking for with the black shabby frame.
You can really see the before and
after of the ceiling…
before…..
..and after!
I love the look of the light fixture (below) against the
textured ceiling! The paint that I used on the
bead board is Extra White by Sherwin Williams.
I used a darker white on the ceiling called Weathered White,
also by Sherwin Williams. The Weathered White
has a bit of gray in it and looks so
pretty next to the bright white and the rusty light fixture.
I did use a clear matte spray on the light
fixture and the shelf brackets.
It just helps seal the rust and gives a nice patina
to the old metal.
Here’s the corner shelf adorned with some fun
vintage collections. An old trophy filled
with 6-inch advertising rulers, old scoops,
and old clock, mason jar, a stain removal pamphlet
and some ironstone pitchers.
One of my favorite pieces is the Watkins
salesman box that was snapped up at
The Alameda Flea market for $25.00. Next to it are early turn of the century postage scales that
were a find for $25.00 and $35.00.
Skat hand soap? Had to laugh when I
found that and new it would be a great
addition to the vignettes and add a pop of color as well.

Our friend, Don, applied all of the bead board,
textured the ceiling and hung up the shelving
for us. He also gave us the old fence board for the shelves.
I really like the rustic feel of the raw wood – so farmhouse looking!
For now I just tacked up an antique tablecloth
in the window but will soon be making
some curtains for the window.
Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to come back
in a few days for a vintage farmhouse giveaway to celebrate
(a wee bit late) my five years of blogging,
my new blog redo and the completion of our remodeling!

10-5-12: Today I am linking up with Claudia for her Favorite Things post! Please stop by and visit my friend from New York if you haven't already done so. I know I've had this post up for several days, but really, besides my new laminate flooring, this room is now one of my favorite rooms in our home. A long desired dream that is now reality. And yes, it is much nicer to do laundry in here now. Don't ask my why, maybe because it feels lighter, brighter and more open.
Happy Weekend!!

Hi there, I love, really love, your laundry room. Bead Board makes my heart sing as well as all your antique pieces. I don't have a window in my laundry room but have some vintage baby dresses. I guess I should repost again for those who are new. Thanks for sharing-can't wait to see what you do for your giveaway-five years, what an accomplishment. Who knew blogging would be such fun!

Oh My! How lovely! You could hardly mind doing laundry in such a space. You have achieved that elusive balance between shabby and chic, between patina and gloss, light and shadow, old and new.
I think I will be forever asking: "Just how *does* one do that?"

I would never have a problem with doing laundry in your beautiful new laundry room!!!
my goodness, that turned out really REALLY nice!! I bet you are loving it
I loved every single detail of this makeover... especially the SKAT hand soap... is that what I think it is? Goodness, in such a cute little container. And that light fixture... gorgeous! You are wonderful!!!
Becky, I love how your laundry room turned out, its you! I really love the light fixture its so perfect and looks very lacey me (its pretty). Wow that sink is to die for, I miss having a sink. I used to have one in my garage and I would color my hair and rise it in the deep sink..LOL. I sure did it was wonderful:)
By removing the cabinets its really added more space. I have been wanting to do our little laundry room, did you see the 1960 electric ironing board I have in there, its attached to the wall. If I took that out we would have more room. I think the laundry room is going to be our 2013 project. Beautifully done you guys!
Sending love and hugs, Elizabeth
Hi Becky!
What an amazing transformation...I love all the farmhouse touches. The beadboard reminds me of my Gramma's house in Missouri.
I hope you have a great weekend, my sweet friend.
Blessings,
Carolynn
Your room is so inviting! I might not be thinking "LessLaundry" if my room looked like that. I especially love the wooden crate! Linda
You created a laundry room to LOVE. That sink is so great. Love your displayed collectibles. Great stuff. The soap box - the yellow hand soap tin, ...everything actually. Sure glad you shared at Claudia's.
Joy
Becky,
what a fantastic makeover you did! Love all the special touches, love the corner shelves and vintage treasures! It looks wonderful, takes the drudge out of laundry!
Rebecca
The table cloth at the window is fantastic. Happy weekend. Regula
Your laundry room is very nice.
I noticed the ceiling, I want to do
my kitchen with the texture and yours
seems to be perfect.
Very nice indeed!
Sandy
Who wouldn't want to do laundry in such a pretty space! You've done a great job with the remodel and I love your styling! I can see why it is one of your favorite rooms.
My! Coming from someone who is chained to a dimly lit, cluttered, cobwebby basement laundry room-- I'm so impressed!!
With all the rage being in 'front load' machines... It is nice to see your lovely washroom with a top load machine.
I HAD a front loader for about 8 years and it went out...meaning it DIED! KA-POOT!!! there was no fixing it. We went shopping for a new machine...a toploader again and I love it!
Wanting to redo my laundry area...but not much inspiration for wash rooms with toploads...
I know I go on...but the way your washer opens matters when decorating or adding storage. I just matters.
I love your washroom and am Pinning it!
beautiful.
Wondering what days are available, so I can bring my laundry over and do it in there!?!
you're laundry room is my favorite thing!
:) Pat
via MHC Favorite Things.
Now that would have to make doing laundry fun! Love your vintage finds, especially those scoops! And the sink-- how fabulous is that!!

Mission accomplished and very well done. I love all the elements. Your planning and hunting certainly paid off. It's perfect!
OH my word I just LOVE the laundry room!! What a fantastic job you did!!!
Good Grief a person would actually WANT to do laundry here! :)
As much as I loathe doing laundry, I could hang out in your laundry room all day. What a fabulous makeover!!
Oh My GOSH! It looks FABULOUS!! I love it so much. It is so you! :) UMMMM... how could I get my hubby on board for this kind of face lift in our laundry room???
~Liz
Your laundry room turned out so well. I love the beadboard! Visiting from A Favorite Thing Saturday and am your newest follower. Hope you have time to stop by Still Woods Farmhouse for a visit!
Can I come live in your laundry room??? Oh my HECK!! I don't even know where to start...so I won't. Besides - you're probably tired of being notified you have a new comment from me. (Sorry - life's been crazy lately and I didn't realize I was this far behind or I would have done a "quiet" catch up (looking but not talking...)) But...back to my point...can I just maybe make a nest or something on top of your washer and dryer? I don't take up much room!! ;o) (Alternative - you come here and redo my house....) Smiles & Best Hugs ~ Robin (Think I'm somewhat caught up now, so I'll be quiet for the night....)
Your "new" laundry room is fantastic!!! I just love it and can hardly wait for a new do over on mine.
