Serving Up Messages

P1010106a

Scrabble tiles are quite the popular bits these days.  They’re everywhere in altered art pieces, scrapbooking, mixed media, and handmade jewelry.  When I see an orphaned game for sale, I always buy it, granted that the price is right.

For now, the little collection of tiles are wrangled together in an old brown transferware bowl.  They are kickin’ it with some old cow tags and the silver plate spoon – the spoon is for scooping out tiles, but looks kind of “fallish” as well.

Harvest is the word of the day.  Who knows what surprises I might have once my son finds the bowl of tiles.  Next time there might be something hilarious spelled out, but hopefully something sweet, like "I love you".

I was just messing around with scrabble peices this evening, thinking about where I wanted to use messages in my fall and Halloween decor. Love your pretty pictures! Pinning one to my vintage decorating board now!

You should do a post each time he changes the word....I'm sure each would be chuckle (or smile) worthy!

You have turned me on to these as a decor element, an interactive one at that.
I have been picking up tiles from games in the GW bins. I'm thinking of making magnets for the fridge. Remember the brightly colored plastic letters you'd put down low for the kids? I think more than one of my sons might leave me messages on the fridge. Probably "Buy More Milk".

I have tiles in an old scale, but I love how you've styles yours. I never thought to spell out a word in the pile. Thank you for this easy and great idea!

Now that's some mighty tasty harvest soup you're serving up!

I think I have a scrabble game somewhere in the man cave from which I could "borrow" a message.

Becky I use to have them all over the house with sayings...BUT...with grandchildren you always have these sayings change. I now have just one in my vintage cabinet that says VINTAGE.
I love your bowl and the tiles. I can't wait to see what message ends up in it.

Becky, I never knew those were called cow tags! Love how you integrated them into the tiles. I like using the letters for lots of vignettes- heck, I even used them in my blog button! Glad you popped over for a visit. :-) Your photos are so pretty and the apple dish you created in your newest post looks scrumptious. What a good idea to put sausage with apples! :-)

I think I love your son.... ;o)

(Seriously - if I were lucky enough to be able to find the tiles, and then display them, the only ones here who would notice would be my cats...and they don't spell very well.) Robin
