Duck, Duck, Goose! ~~ My Quilt for the Summer Stash Quilt Challenge

My Summer Stash Quilt Story
I love a good challenge and Eileen, over at Eileen's Attic, tempted us with a Summer Stash Quilt Challenge. The rules of the challenge is to make any size/kind of quilt, however the kicker is to use fabrics you have in your "stash." Ok, I can do this....I think.... I will be an honest engine here and tell you I DID have to go and buy three additional fabrics because I just don't have a lot of blue fabrics. Eileen, don't kick me.... ha.

What happened next just happened. I thought about what I wanted to make and decided to design my own quilt. Now keep in mind that I am not a "quilter" (just a seamstress) so this "challenge" was a two-fer. I have always loved the whimsy of appliqued quilts, like Elizabeth and Ann design. Can I do that? Maybe a small one.

Subject matter???......hmm...blue=water. Yellow=ducks.

Ever play the game "Duck, Duck, Goose?"

So I took out my pencils and paper and began to sketch....ducks above and the goose below.

Now to figure out the pieces to applique.

My stash-o-fabrics to use. Ok, seems not too hard...I can see it in my head - now just bring it to life. So I sewed, embroidered and hand appliqued, cut and pieced... and..drum roll...introducing you to my little

Duck......

...Duck.......
....Goose....
...Quilt...

It is a little quilt, but it was tons of fun to make. I think my favorite part to do was the machine quilting - or stippling, as the pro's call it.

I added ric-rac for texture and the blue ric-rac is "the water."
Random squiggly lines and my first attempt at doing a proper binding.

...and Geese in Flight up the middle - I thought appropriate for this one.

"Hey momma, do you think it is ok for us to be on the quilt?"

"Sweetie," says Momma Duck, "just don't leave any droppings...."
I have to give credit to my sweet friend, Miss Jean, for giving me some "pointers" on quilting shortcuts. Thank you!!

Now I think I have been ever so gently bitten by the "quilting bug" and will have to make another. Hmmm......what should I do next? Something in reds!!

Oh my gosh this is BEYOND adorable!!! You should win some kind of prize! My favorite is the chick with the scarf. Too cute!!! I feel like maybe 100 more exclamation points might make it clear how impressed I am with your creation ;-) When we talk you have to explain to me how the machine quilting is done. I have done only the hand stitching. You make me want to quilt again! And just for fun....more exclamations!!!!!

Hugs,
Lallee

I am so proud of you, my friend! You have officially been bitten by the quilting bug. There is no known cure for it! Can I get an Amen, Ladies?

Stop by anytime to go through my sewing room for patterns(not that you need them when you can creat them yourself) or a project to work on. I see a great future of sewing Saturdays with my BFF's! Thank you for the mention as I am humbled. With your clothing construction background you are going to soar to great heights in quilting and I can say "I knew her when!"

Oh, yea, that's right! I'm your agent (and biggest promoter) so I get 10%! Cool!!!! LOL!

Love ya, dear friend.

(Shhh, don't tell anyone but I think we need to colaborate on a certain type of dog quilt!!!)

Maggie sends her love.

Okay,God did not make man equally because I have NO talent. I am still trying to find it, I know its there somewhere. You are amazing! I just love all the colors in your quilt. Your picture is very nice! I had my husband take my picture about a week ago because I decide to put a face to my blog as well. But as you can see I chose not to put it up. I will take another one soon, maybe it will turn out better. When your own husband tells you that it's not very good picture then it's gotta be bad!
Thank-you for stopping by it is always nice to hear from you.

Hi
Loved the ducky-goose quilt. Did you quilt it on a regular old sewing machine? Are you going to sell it on ebay? Or etsy? Or give it away on your give-away? ;)
