Signs of Spring

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to live somewhere other than where you live at this moment?  I do, and I have thought about what it would be like to live somewhere on East Coast, Mid-West, Texas and even in New Mexico.  Why?  Well, there are different reasons - such as living near the Atlantic, maybe in the Texas Hill Country, having an old white farmhouse with lots and lots of land or living in the beautiful high desert. All of these reasons sound divine, however truth be told - I am terrified of hurricanes and tornados, cannot tolerate humidity and I don't care much for snow.  And at this current time, many of you are battling tremendous amounts of snow - and, well, that just doesn't sound like a whole lot of anything but simply a huge headache.

Where I live, it does get smoking hot in the summer, but we don't have the humidity, well maybe a wee bit now and then, but nothing like east of the Rockies.  Though our state is in drought status, it still is beautiful.  Today was a bit foggy, but the sun did break later in the afternoon.  Birds played outside and chattered amongst themselves.

The roses are pushing out their new reddish green growth and many volunteer flowers are getting bigger each day.  Nothing like those freebies, like the Allysum.  We seem to have worms on steroids this year.  When I was planting the Impatiens, I found a lot of worms in the soil - more like Night Crawler size.  I felt bad cutting them in half with my hand trowel......so I covered them up with dirt and hoped that maybe they would still be okay.  Can they live with half their body?  I guess that would be a good Google search.

The sun was shining through the windows on Monday, so I snapped some photos.  I put together a little spring vignette on the entry hall table.  Duhgall sat in the Granny Chair and watched while I messed around and polished the furniture.  It always feels good to have things tidy.  Spring cleaning before Spring.  No harm in that, right?

I can assure you, winter and snow is not the most pleasant thing this time of year Becky! I groan a little every time I see one of my California friends talking about their gardens right now. This morning we woke up to temps of -20,I don't even want to talk about the wind chill! I actually think about what it would be like to live just a little further south, enough to have milder winters but not scorching summers? Is there such a place? I am guessing if there was we would ALL live there. The house looks beautiful. I am getting ready to make a final sweep for winter décor in the house, pack it up and pull out spring! It can be spring inside even if it isn't outside :>)

Happy Friday Becky! Your home looks so pretty, as always. I'm bringing out signs of spring here at our house too.

If you lived here in my Texas you'd be experiencing daffodils, lots of pansies, and sunshine. But there's also extreme drought here just like California. Our lake is down 12 ft and we are in danger of running out of water. Praying for rain.

I've had a friend here this week from Upstate New York. She has so much snow at home and was in awe of our weather. There's no place like home though. :)

I just love your home! Your dining room is so pretty. And Dugall, What's not to love?

Becky, your home is so beautiful! It is cold, 12 degrees this morning, in the upstate of South Carolina but the buttercups are blooming.

I've just returned from a week on the other side of the Rockies and that was enough really cold winter to last me a long time. I like our Pacific Northwest fog and damp in winter - we have a glorious spring, summer and autumn!

It's still very frigid here in the Midwest, but this morning early I heard a robin singing as though he had something to sing about! I haven't seen one in months but I'll look for him today!
Even while it's snowing! :D

We have record breaking low temps of 3 degrees here in NC, with ice covered snow everywhere and more snow and ice predicted in the next couple of days. I thought moving to NC I could still get 4 seasons, but mild winters...not so much!

Your post makes me dream of spring and digging in the garden.

I am born and raised in Northern California. 15 yrs ago we moved to the Kansas City area with the dream of living on land. That dream ended fast when faced with the reality of tornadoes, humidity, snow, bugs, snakes, etc. a huge tornado hit just two months after living there and we had no basement. It was terrifying. We ended up moving back home to Northern California 18 mos later. We missed the ocean and the Sierra Nevada Mtns. And Yosemite and redwoods. We will never leave again. This is home sweet home.

Becky I love your home and Doog's looks like he is enjoying you clean. You are so funny girl, those worms should regenerate and you'll have more. That's a good thing as they will keep your soil tilled and loose for those beautiful flowers. Born and raised in Louisiana so I love the weather here, if you don't just wait a minute or two and it will change, LOL. We did get a little snow last year, but normally we don't. It's 65 today and 71 tomorrow . Their calling for sleet Monday but I am so ready for Spring and Spring cleaning.

Becky, your home is just beautiful! I love living in California too. I like it a lot more up North, but I can be there in just about four hours.. :) My daughter lives in Santa Cruz and my granddaughter lives in Menlo Park. So pretty there.

You would love Oregon as we have all the seasons but not much high heat and not much snow.

I'm a little jealous of your weather and yes, I wonder about living somewhere else. I enjoy gardening and am ready to get my hands in the dirt. Currently, too much snow and ice on the ground for that. Nice photos of your home!

Well, you have inspired me to get to Spring cleaning, Becky, even while snow is still falling outside! : ) I should really do that before I bring out my Spring décor. This is probably the best time to do it while I am stuck in the house!

I am itching to get my nests and eggs out and about. Your décor all looks great and your house looks wonderful. I love that long mirror you have; I don't think I've seen one like that before.

Hello my sweet cottage friend! I love coming over here and getting inspired by all your beautiful decor and wonderful words. You are one in a million! Enjoy this somewhat foggy day... maybe the sun will break through. Until then, the birds are singing, my kids are still sleeping and life is GOOD! xoxo jules

So charming the way you tied the bird, nest and egg motif in with the original vintage prints on the wall. Your home is the epitome of a warm welcome and a cozy nest. The colors, fabrics and furniture blend together with a voice that says "Home."

Duhgall looks so cute in that darling chair and your home looks beautiful as always, Becky :)

Since I've lived in four different states, I know that there's nowhere I'd rather be than right where I am. It's a very different world east of the Rockies and although it's beautiful, I know that I'm back where I belong, on this side.

Earthquakes are nothing compared to hurricanes and tornadoes, trust me lol

Isn't it wonderful when the sun finally pops through all the fog? I wish we could bottle the afternoon weather. Your home looks lovely, so many pretty springy treasures.

I feel like those of you that are gardening already live in a different world than me. Up north we LOVE to complain about the weather and the past few weeks have been no different. It's -25 this morning and I'm snuggled in front of the fireplace. It's a good thing I've got plenty to keep me occupied indoors!

The photos of your home are charming as always, Becky. You have so many wonderful vintage treasures to make your home cozy and your little spring display is darling. Enjoy your favorite time of year!

It kind of sounds like you are exactly where you need to be! If you were in southeastern NC, you would be having a cloudy day with a temperature of 67. Two days ago, it got down to 11 overnight. A few days from now, the temperatures will dip again. About a week ago, you would have seen clumps of daffodils while running errands. Ours are working there way up. Enjoy where you are. I am.

Goodness, I know we Brits are known for complaining about the weather, but reading your post and these replies makes me realise how lucky we are. Yesterday we were walking through woods of snowdrops and today the sun is shining bright and Soring does seem just around the corner. It's only about 5degrees but that sounds pretty warm compared to your current temperatures. Wrap up warm and keep safe. At least you have a beautiful home to snuggle down in.
