One day I thought I would just pop in to our local thrift store to see if there was anything worthy of taking home that day. Sometimes I will find a little treasure, while other days the luck of the draw isn’t on my side. However, this particular day proved to be a righteous visit. On the shelf were several old things that my eye fell upon and one of those was this English Ironstone tea pot with the birds on it. $4.99, not bad…until I looked on the bottom and there was a crack. Not convinced it should come home with me, I walked around the store holding it and thinking about it.
…and on the shelf below that are more chipped Ironstone dishes that I just love. It doesn’t matter if there is a little imperfection, the piece is old and well deserves to show its age. Others before me must have respected the piece enough to not toss it into the trash. …thank you….

These are just so beautiful to look at, I suppose they would lose their value to someone who still wanted the tea pot to hold tea the way it used to, but as display pieces they still add a touch of beauty to your shelves.

Ha, this is how I feel sometimes. When I see those new wrinkles, grey hairs and extra pounds, I tell myself I've earned it all:>)Thank goodness my family ignores my imperfections and loves me all the same!
What a sweet teapot. I just love the birds and delicate handle. I'm sure it's happy to find a good home.
Love the twig handle on that tea pot or coffee pot. The graphics are very special, too. Glad that you have it in your home. It belongs there...
And now it's in another treasured spot!

That is beautiful and shows it was loved and used. That gives the piece character. I have a lot of pieces like that.
It is beautiful! And I have learned that when in a thrift shop, or anywhere, and you find a piece you are just "thinking" about, to keep it in your buggy while thinking!!!! I have lost many a piece by setting back down, only to come around the corner to find it in someone else's buggy!!!

Great find Becky! I would have snatched it up too. Many of my pieces have imperfections but it does give them character, and I like that!
Haven't tried those lemon bars yet. I went to the grocery store and couldn't remember how many lemons so I only bought one. One down...three to go, hopefully this week-end.

Well I love them too. I can't wait to get to start thrift shopping again. Maybe soon.
The journey continues. Things are better and I should be able to get on-line alot more regular. Maybe I will even post.
I'll take photo's of Daisy soon she will have her summer hair cut on Tues. I found a DIY place! I cannot wait! I'll save $40.00! I'll have to go thrifting!

Oh they are all lovely! I especially like the platters. I have one similar to them that has a chip on it but it is my favorite. It only has one name on the back and I could never find any other pieces to match.
The teapot is delightful, who cares about the crack?
Oh you certainly did the right thing bringing that pitcher home! It is beautiful. Things do not always have to be perfect to loved!!
You did the right thing......or at least what I'd have done! I have a growing collection of cracked orphans, and I love them all.

I'm with you. Why throw something out just because it has a little flaw! It we did that with people, there would not be any left! Enjoy the little imperfections and appreciate the life they have previously led. Wonder what wonderful stories they could tell us!
