what to do with a rusty lampshade frame

P1010011c

I bought this rusty iron lampshade thinking I would hang an old fashioned lamp bulb from the center of it and use it on the patio. HOWEVER…

P1010007c

I thought it could also be used as an “open” cloche – if you will. Just fit it onto a pretty base – like this silver plate compote and voila!

P1010004b

A rustic and pretty little display.

I can just see this over an ironstone bowl with tiny pumpkins for the fall. A little twine on the top and maybe a little hay under the pumpkins…..*sigh*….fall is just around the corner!!

I love old rusty lampshades! And I am SO EXCITED for FALL!!! I can't wait. This past week's weather has been a nice fallish break from the hot 100* days.

No, no, no.....there's still some summer left - and for those of us who didn't see any sunshine until July, we're hanging on for dear life!
So please enjoy your rusty lampshade with sand dollars, flowers, sea shells and summer ephemera!....for a while yet!

That looks adorable and it will be so cute with hay/pumpkins for fall. I saw a post on someone's blog where they used the frames of old lampshades on their lamps and you just saw the bulb through the frame.(no fabric on the frame) It looked good, especially if the frame has a neat shape. Love & blessings from NC!

Love how you are using it. I would never have thought of that! I would have been trying to clean the rust off so I could recover it. Too much work when what you did is so cute!

Your timing couldn't have been better. I have 2 or 3 of these that I bought to use as lampshades only to realize it's not too practical as the bulb BLINDS me.. lol I collect bird's nests so I am going to follow your lead and go grab my new cloches! Thanks!

Great idea! Pumpkins will look wonderful there. It's been so hot here all summer that I'm looking forward to autumn (and my second year of not-going back-to-school!).

I like it exactly like that, sweetpea. I think I'll try to find some old lampshades, strip them and hang them in my living room. Getting a new look soon! Just you wait and see. Hah.

So creative!
To take this old rusty lampshade frame that would be considered trash and thrown away by many, but you can envision all of it's possibilities. I love it!
