It Pays To Dig….

…through boxes at garage sales! In the bottom of a box full of old linens…P1010053p

…I came upon this beautiful piece of antique red work. It is actually a pillow cover – the Victorians would cover their sleeping pillow with handmade pieces, like this one.

Perhaps someday I will make it into a pillow, but for now, it is hanging over the beautiful quilt that my friend, Jean, made.

I don’t even mind the tiny imperfections….it is perfectly sweet.

How pretty. I'm really hoping to make two of the "good morning and goodnight" pillows for the bedroom we are working on. Maybe in the next few years. :@

It would be easier if I could find 2 at a garage sale, like you did!!!

What an incredible find! I have two pillow shams that I only put out at Christmas on the master bed, and they are original Red Work that my husbands grandmother made. Enjoy! Kit

Hello dear Becky!

Oh this piece is just lovely! I love the little bowl of ornies. I am so into red and white this year. I don't know what it is. When I see your posts, it so reminds me of my grandmas. So warm and cozy. she used to sew all kinds of things too. Pretty lampshades, and even doll clothes for me. :)

Hugs,
Debbie

It is a wonderful example of redwork. I'd find it so comforting to have hanging over my bed. You must, too.

What beautiful stitches! Embroidered pieces are so pretty.

I enjoy taking out my hoop and floss. The last time was to do a touch up on "M" Dog - a stuffed toy I made for my son when he was a little tyke. After a bath (washer) and more food (stuffing) our grandson now enjoys "M" Dog. :)
