Over the years I have collected antique ship pictures and decided to do a little grouping with several of them. The empty bedroom wall was beckoning for a little attention: “Do something with me! I look so bare!”
Ok…….it’s hammer time! (And yes, I have MC Hammer’s song in my head right now: Can’t Touch This! …whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop – and because I am such a dork, I added it to the playlist for today’s post! Yeh, it’s like that! Word!)
Breaking it down and busting a move:
To make the grouping, I started with the big picture in the center and worked up and around, making a little random grouping. I like random.
My son calls this corner the traveling vignette.
I like that!
I oftentimes wonder what life was like back in the day of traveling on these old clipper ships. What was the experience like? To imagine the sounds of the ship’s hull creaking and moaning as it maneuvered over the rough seas, taking her passengers to destinations all over the world.
How incredible the captains were to meticulously navigate to their point of landing. And they didn’t have any of the fancy stuff to do it with! Amazing…
…..off I go into the wild blue yonder…. ahoy!!!
BY THE WAY….

I love this corner you have here. The old suitcases and ships makes such a great statement! Going to go enter your giveaway now. Have a great day!
All your pictures are always so pretty but today's grouping is among my favorites. I grew up in a little whaling town in Connecticut and those old nautical prints always make me happy. Hope you are having a great day--thanks for sharing!
PS At least I will know why MC Hammer will be in my head all day!
What a beautiful corner.
I think that travel, long ago, was much more of an adventure than it is today. The planning, the uncertainty, the lack of modern conveniences - all very exciting to intrepid women.
Love this! What a great eye you have for space and balance. It looks just perfect.
Hugs,
Penny
Love your suitcases and your pillows and your pictures and everything!
Becky, that looks amazing. Beautiful~!
I don't think I ever met a vintage suitcase I didn't take to! You have to wonder where it's been and how far it's traveled.
Brenda
I love what you did in your spare room. I love vintage suitcases and the old pictures look perfect around them! take care, Maryann
That wall turned out beautifully! Sometimes I imagine what it must've been like to travel the world by ship. There were lots of people who saw far more of the world in that time than I ever have or will in this.
Becky, what a wonderful grouping and perfect with the suitcases!

Hi Becky,
It looks great, I love the luggage!!!Did I ever tell you the story of Hammer and LL cool J.
When the girls were in there early teens we took them and two girls friends to LA. The Hotel we were staying at was the one Hammer and LL cool J were staying in. Gary and I were waiting in the lobby for the girls to come down (it was safe in those days) anyway on the way down the girls rode with yes Hammer and LL cool J..they even talked to each other! what a thrill for them. When the girls got off the elevator they faces were red and they were looking right at us all giggly and smiling.
Have a sweet day and stay dry, its raining over in the bay today.
Big hugs, Elizabeth
This looks amazing! I love the prints, I love the old suitcases. Yep, I love it all. The suitcase on the top reminds me of the choo choo bags that all of my friends and I just had to have back in the day. Now you probably don't remember those because you were just a baby.
Yikes! I'm telling my age. ; )
Blessings,
Sheila
CAN'T TOUCH THIS....BREAK IT DOWN NOW.....LOVE IT...my kids and I danced to that so many times. You made my day. Do you know it's hard to sing and read at the same time, for me that is. O.K. from one dork to the other I love your wall, that
looks really good. I just went to
the thrift store today and purchased an old vintage suitcase from the 40's (brown) and added it
to my stack. Love yours and I am going to keep all my vintage buttons in it. I have a LOT of vintage buttons. I read in the Country Living where they kept Christmas decorations in theirs.
Great idea. I have a stack in the
sewing room with lace and patterns
in them. I think your son named your vignette just right. It is also amazing how many old trunks
made it off all those ships.
I have never thought of collecting things like that but I love yours and what you have done with it all...looks so great! :D
LOVE the ships and suitcases!!!!! Beautiful arrangement!
Beautiful! I love the way you pulled it all together!
Becky, the grouping of the ships is lovely. You know how much I love old luggage! Have a wonderful week. Hugs, sandi

You have such exquisite taste. I love your new 'traveling' wall. I just find it hard to believe, with all your incredible collections, that you had a blank wall! Lori L
MC Hammer just freaked me out! WHEW, had my speakers up and now I will be dreaming of things I can't touch...
ANYWAY, I came by to see if you've been to the Thrift Emporium on 9th Street by Kansas. Totally a fun place to go and sift through. HUGE trunks for $35 bucks or less. And behind the green curtain ... I felt like I was on an episode of pickers! Thought of you and wanted to share just in case you haven't been there! Jules
It's hard to type...while boppin' around...whoop, whoop, whoop! LOVE the suitcases and the wall!!!
Hugs,
Dena
Love it! I just love the suitcases.... Thanks for the cute ideas.
Jan
Oh how beautiful!!! I love your collections -- both the suitcases and the prints are wonderful, and they combine to create such a terrific tableau!
The corner looks so wonderful. I adore ships and have two paintings that I found at the Salvation Army. You've inspired me to get them out of the garage and hang them up!
Deanna :D
You know?
You are so darn CUTE Beckers!
What an adorable post and what an awesome vibe you've created in the bedroom...LOVE LOVE and LOVE it ALL!

Hello! So nice to meet you. I love this grouping. I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay so enjoyed the nautical prints. Love, love, love the suitcases. Enjoy your weekend!
I am in LOVE with these vintage suitcases! Your blog always makes me Happy! Weekend hugs my friend. xo
I think this looks so beautiful Becky. I have always been drawn to how pretty the old paintings of these sailing ships are. The suitcases and photos make a beautiful and unique arrangement. I have a bare wall in the bedroom that I have never known what to do with! I just need to look around at what I have and have the nerve to put nail holes in the wall. Lol, Earl hates nail holes!
I love all of these pics! And of course, I can always use a little Hammer time!!!
...can't touch this.....
:)
I love your ship pictures!! I have only a couple and I would LOVE to collect more!!! Where do you find them? They are wonderful!
And I love how you put them with those old suitcases!!! So wonderful!
xoxo
i love this never considered ships yet i see them often. I love the vintage luggage it makes for a wonderful cozy corner....
Becky I love your wonderful ship paintings and the luggage in your "traveling corner"! But what struck me right away is the fact that we have the same bed posts! My father made our bed, but we ordered the posts from a woodworking catalog! Now I'll have to venture around your blog to try and find a photo of your entire bed. I've never, ever seen another bed with those same posts!
Kat :)
Thanks so much for all the time you take to encourage each of us. So many times when I tune in I am encouraged by your words and thoughts. Thanks for sharing with us all.
I so love your decorating sensibility! No one does it any better than our Becky!
