In-Turning

P1010001d2 What can you do with old glass door knobs? Well, the obvious would be to put them on a door, however if you don’t have all of the parts and pieces it could be almost next to impossible to use them.

P1010007l1 Displaying them on a nicely tarnished silver tray is pretty. I love the contrast of the glass knobs against the silver and the old rusty patina on the fittings.

P1010005h1 Or you could take some antique pharmaceutical bottles…

P1010009d1 ..and marry the two together by using the knobs as finials on the bottles. Kind of a sweet “in-turn-ship", don’t you think? Maybe I'll add some old lace, a button and old ephemera around the neck of the bottle.

P1010010k1 But for now, should I leave them on the tray atop the bathroom counter or….

P1010012p1 … display them in our bathroom hutch with other other old bottles and jars?

Y'all have a great day and I hope that your spring is "turning" out to be a good one!

  1. Miss B - these photos are really beautiful. If I had to choose, I really like the sea-glass look of the bottles against the tarnished tray -- such a pretty vignette with the shells and sand dollars. Have a wonderful weekend! -amy

  4. I've seen a few old doorknobs that were gorgeous but the sellers wanted an arm and a leg for them. Would be nice to find some for a song. Really pretty display!

  7. I have these knobs too stored in the basement from my Mom's old house. I often wondered what to do with them. I have seen them used as coat hooks, a row of them on a board. I like your temporary ideas as they are not permanent and you could use them again in another way.

  10. Hey Becky, I love the old doorknobs used in the old bottles. I'm with you, it would look cute to have some ribbon, etc. tied around the neck of the bottle. I bought the cutest arrangement one time and it was in a glass doorknob. That was a really cute idea and looked so adorable sitting on a dresser in my bedroom. Love & blessings from NC!

  33. What a beautiful pairing you have made with the knobs and bottles. Along with the shells--beautiful, beautiful vignette! Mr. H brought a bottle home from one of his fishing trips in the Gulf like your aqua one. He saw it on the bottom and fetched it home for me. I'll tell him to keep an eye out for knobs too :-)
    Happy Saturday!

  38. Hi Becky, One of my favorite items to find at sales are old glass door knobs. I have used them to make scepters with old table lets, or stair parts, but have never put them in bottles - I love that idea.

    Have a great weekend.

  43. Becky, what a clever idea! I had never thought of displaying glass doorknobs like that... on the tray and also as bottle stoppers. I like this a lot! And I love the color of your bottles.

We were looking at old bottles today. I saw some lavender ones, a shade I'd not seen before. My favorite color is blue, but those lavender shades were so, so, SO tempting!

Hope all is well with you. Sending you warm hugs across the miles...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  44. Great idea Becky. Don't you just love it when you get an idea about something like that and the two pieces actually fit together? They are so pretty on the tray with all the other things.

We're lucky to have an old home with all glass knobs. I love the feel of them and it's like holding a fine piece of jewlery every time you open a door. It gives me a very solid connection to Hubby's family and I always wonder how many time they touched them in 60 years.
    Hugs,
    Dawn

  48. Hi Becky,
I love that you put the old glass door knob in the bottle. It looks so great! and your idea for some old lace around the bottle neck would be the perfect touch for sure. I finished the heart for Jack on the weekend and had to send my package over night in order of it to arrive to Kim by the 31st. We sure had a beautiful weekend! Now it's raining today. Funny weather for sure.
Take care and keep warm and dry today.
    Big hugs, Elizabeth

  55. OH~~~These are so beautiful! Glass door knobs have always had a special place in my heart. A man from my church used about 4 of them to make a coat hanger. He just got a piece of wood and place the knobs across it. The wood was even cute.
