Awhile back I purchased some vintage sheets – some to sell as fat quarters and others to use for a few projects. I noticed in the upper corner of two sheets that a name and number were written in permanent marker. Georgia 302. Who is Georgia 302?
My only thought is that the pretty floral sheets belonged to a sweet elderly lady, named Georgia, who occupied room 302. Was the room in a convalescent hospital or in an assisted care living facility? Who was Georgia? Was she a petite little lady with curly gray hair? Did she have family who came to visit her? Was she a grandmother? What was her story? Did she love flowers? I do believe so because the sheets are as dainty and sweet as can be.

This is my first time stippling (machine quilting) and I kind of got carried away – it was soooooooooooooooo much fun!!! The next quilt will be much larger! I am so looking forward to making another. Or….maybe even a tote bag!

ReplyDeleteWhen I look at my antiques I ofte wonder, "Who owned you? Where did they buy you? Why did they leave you? Are you happy you have someone to cherish you again?" Ah, silly sentimental me....
and I thought to myself the exact same thing...before I even read a full entence....Georgia.....Room 302....I recognize the ink, the kind used in a care facility...like the one my Father was in....I still have every item from there with his name written.

OH my Gosh! I love this! You did a lovely job and that material from the sheets is so sweet. You can't buy material that sweet!!! Georgia is my sweet Mom's name, but I don't think she ever lived in room 302.

I love the sheets, and can just see sweet little Georgia hanging those beauties on the clothes line on Monday mornings, and can imagine how wonderful they smelled when she slept on them each night. Great job with the machine quilting too. I completed my first machine quilted one not long ago and am itching to quilt another.

It's absolutely gorgeous and you did a great job on your stippling, it just gives the quilt a sweet, sweet look! I think I better get looking through my stash of old sheets!

ReplyDeleteI bet Georgia was lovely. I think your quilt is so sweet and I would love to learn how to do that. I just completed a 2 session course on how to make a quilted table runner. It was my first attempt to quilt anything. I stepped out of my box and used some brighter fabrics that make me smile. I'll be using it in our cabin someday to match the vintage fabric I found last summer. Have a beautiful day Becky!

Tell about the stippling? How did you do that? I have some small pieces that I would love to try that on? It is beautiful and the 302 Georgia made me a bit sad.. wonder who she was ? But I bet she is thrilled with what you did with that sheet! You are a gifted gal!

ReplyDeleteI saved many of my grandma's sheets (old )...she had her name embroidered in the corners. We use these old sheets for a variety of household projects as floor coverings, furniture coverings etc. it makes me feel good to have grandma with me....

ReplyDeleteThis quilt has the most beautiful sweetness about it. I just love it!!!! The mystery of Georgia--don't you love the thought of someone in a convalescent home having sweet sheets like that instead of the sterile white all the time? Impractical I know, but so very sweet.

Oh how beautiful! Georgia would be so very touched and pleased how you have used her sheets to create such a beautiful quilt. You did a wonderful job! I once bought some handmade felt Christmas stockings that had a name on the back (of who made them). I can't remember now what the name was, but it was an old-fashioned name. I also had the same questions and wondered about the dear hands who made them. Have a wonderful weekend!

Very sweet. antiques have that mystery to them, of who owned them, and why did they give the item up. That's why we love them so much. Thank you for the walk down memory lane in your previous post. I have a vintage sprinkler like my parents had, and we did have such fun playing in them. Simpler times, and what fun we had with much less than we had today.
