Yes, two heads are better than one! When it comes time to picking out paint, tile and laminate for the house remodel, I like to get the opinion of my family and friends. The house is taking on a big transformation this month and, like many of you have shared, it will be all better when the dust settles.
As for the two millinery heads above, I bought these from another antique dealer at our shop last week. As soon as he brought them out of his box of goodies, my heart went from a normal beat to a quick pitter patter! Not sure exactly what I will do with these, but for now they sit on top of a dresser in our bedroom.
When I was at the Pacific Grove Antique store, I had to laugh when I found the “Normal Mental” book. It is a math book from the late 1800’s. Not only did I love the cover, but I collect the cardboard school and song books from that era. Next to normal mental is “The Rational Spelling Book.” I bet you won’t find Urban Slang in that one, dontchaknow.
Before I go, lets keep those in the path of Isaac in our thoughts and prayers. My husband’s longtime friend lives on the bayou and he is quite nervous about the flooding. They got off easy with Lee, but he is more nervous about this storm than last year’s. Thinking about all of my blog friends, too. May God keep you all safe and out of harms way.
Peace to all…..
You know what is better than two heads? Four hands!! Just think of all we could get done in a day with two heads and four hands! Maybe four feet would get us moving faster, too!! Better yet, maybe just hiring help would be best!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the remodel! It's work, but so nice when it is done!!
Always love your finds!!

I am praying for those in the path of this storm!!

I sure hope your loved one is safe.

Those are great titles. They'd be featured prominently if they were here as well.
ReplyDeleteBecky I love your heads and thanks for your prayers. We think we are ready for Issac. Generator, batteries, water and food, food, food. Yep I'd say we are ready.
ReplyDeleteThey let the kids out of school today for the next two days. Guess I will have grandchildren here.
Love the math book and the speller is halious, my grandpa graduated from Louisiana Normal State College....funny name so later....they changed it to Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA. Some of grandpa's
old books that he taught school with say normal, like Normal Science Class. Wonder what it would have been if not normal..humm. I love reading some of his old books, and I have mom's Home Ec. book she made in the 1920's. She cut pictures from magazines and glue them in and had to write a story about each one. She made an A. Sorry if I rambled on too much.
Love your finds AND your two heads!;>) Praying for your friend and all the people in Louisiana. Blessings- xo Diana

Ohhhh....and our "likenesses" are shining through....I adore old millinery heads! (Thought I was the only one....) And old books and old cow and sheep bells..... ;o) Good luck with the remodel....We're doing a partial bath redo (just the walls/mirror and vanity....all because the new toilet we had to get didn't fit. And as much as I want it redone, I'm just not looking forward to it. I'm so not good at visualizing....Once it's done, I can say whether I like it or not, but choosing what goes into it drives me nuts. (Well, it doesn't help that choices are limited given that everything in this house is "undersized." :o( Happy Friday! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (PS - I did post about my wonderful key and crow last week...a few posts back....Thank you again...I'm still smiling red....)
ReplyDeleteOh, Becky! I have just found your blog, and have been reading through your archives. Every post is a gem!
ReplyDeleteI can't say anything further without telling you that I've been aching for you and your DH and Spencerin the loss of your beloved Jordan. It takes my breath away and gives me a brick in my stomach every time I think of it. You see, I have 3 boys (20, 18 and 15), and I pray for them constantly, because you never know what lies around the next bend.
I don't want to make you sad by bringing it up, but I couldn't write you without acknowledging your loss and expressing my sympathy.
I wish I could decorate like you. I go thrifting, and bring home charming goodies, with lots of *patina*, but there is definitely an art to displaying it.... too often I succeed in making it all look like a pile of junk, instead of showcasing the raw beauty of the pieces. I'm going to keep trying though, that's the beauty of it, is the changing and re-grouping and trying different things.
I'm so glad you've been blogging as long as you have, your archives are a treasure trove.
And yes, I love scotties! I have a pair of cocker spaniels whom I dearly love, of course, but someday a scottie maybe....
With love and admiration,
WendyBee
