Every so often I go through my collection of antique children’s readers books. The artwork and the stories within the pages of these books have an innocence – a sweetness about them. The other day I picked up a book titled Standard Bible Story Readers – Book Four. It is was published back in 1927.
Do you ever open a book and discover that the content – say for example a picture or a story – grabs your attention? The other day I opened this book up to the "God's Love" poem. It was as though it was meant to be for my hands to open that book to that very page - like a special message given as a gift for the day. I immediately told God “thank you” for this. I also thank God each and every day for the blessings that He has bestowed to my family and to myself. There are times that I wonder why things happen the way they do, but I never blame God for them. Never. I can only praise Him for loving us and for being our Father.
Also inside the Bible reader are the above and below pages.
….Land of the pilgrims’ pride….from every mountainside…let freedom ring!
For peace and for plenty, for freedom for rest,
For joy in the land from the east to the west;
For the dear starry flag with its red, white and blue,
We thank Thee from hearts that are honest and true.
For walking and sleeping, for blessings to be,
We children would offer our praises to Thee;
For God is our Father, and bends from above,
To keep the round world in the smile of His love.
~~~
I am so very thankful to be a child of our God.
I am also thankful for all of you, too!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
ReplyDeleteXO,
It's nice to have an on going conversation with God and especially those special moments. I am always very much aware of what I have to be thankful for. That's the place I like to stay in- each and every day, but even more so, when we are given simple little gifts like those.
ReplyDeleteI know I have been absent a lot lately so I am making the rounds to let my blog friends know I love them and to wish them a happy Thanksgiving. ReplyDeleteSweet Becky:
ReplyDeleteI have the same reader and love old readers so much for just this same reason, all the sweetness and the pure patriotism that runs throughout each one; and each book plainly pays credit for that to God, our Father!
I hope you have a truly wonderful Thanksgiving, I sure am thankful for you!
A very happy Thanksgiving to you, Becky and to yours. I, too, love to see the old stories in children's readers. They were the best!
ReplyDeleteI love old schoolbooks, too! I buy damaged ones and salvage the beautiful illustrations to frame. I'm grateful for many things, but mostly for God's love for me. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love the song America...I especially like these words - "Long may our land be bright with freedom's holy light; protect us by thy might, Great God, our King!"
The thanksgiving song is beautiful. I've never seen it before. Thank you for sharing it!
I pray your family has a joy-filled Thanksgiving Day and that the Lord blesses you all in a very special way!
I love that when that happens. It happens when I pick up my bible or devotional quite often. As though God meant for me to read HIS words and not the ones I choose. Love this post. Happy thanksgiving to you and your family!! Tammy
ReplyDeleteBecky you are a blessing!
ReplyDeleteI feel God does that for me too...how many times have I opened something and found words that were exactly what was needed.
