One of my favorite things to look for when out scouting for antiques is old restaurant ware dishes. The quality of the dishes is substantial – enough to be used over and over again to hungry patrons. The red (or often called pink) dishes are my favorites. Even though they are made from different manufacturers, they look lovely together in a grouping. Some of the companies that made the old restaurant and hotel dishes are Tepco, Syracuse, Shenango and Wallace.
Another reason that I favor the red is that the color is a nice compliment for Valentine’s Day, Fourth of July and Christmas.
And….speaking of Christmas, here is another picture to get the old Christmas decorating umph going! Many of you shared that you could not believe Christmas is up in the stores, and I could not agree with you any more! I am dragging my feet big time in getting my space at the Antique Mall decorated for Christmas (it is still warm outside for heavens sake), however I’m feverishly working on pricing some fun vintage things to sell and pulling out items to decorate the space….hence the lack in blog time.
Now if only I had these two little elves to help me out! That would be just dandy and would sure free up some time for me to relax at the computer. Till next time, have a lovely day!
Eeek! Love your little elves!!!!

i love your red transferware. i have started a collection of red and white teacups after a post i saw of a bed and breakfast in france. they had hung them all on a white rustic shabby shelf on hooks and they looked so awesome.
ReplyDeletenice to see you and good luck at the fair.
We can always wish that those little elves might come to life in the dark of night and get to work transforming your space!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the red transferware...my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteI have been collecting slowly the Shenango for the last year. I love the heaviness of the plates and the pinkish red color.
ReplyDeleteThis company was also commisioned to make all the dishes for the US Navy. Must be durable...lol
Thanks for sharing..Hugs Cindy
Becky I love your red and white restaurant ware. I have a creamer and a few other pieces. Love your elves and your right Christmas is
ReplyDeletenot that far away. If only it would get cool...sigh.
Yes, we wil soon be decorating for the holidays. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteNot ready of Christmas and all the rush but I do love the magic of Christmas.
Love your restaurant ware dishes....
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to think Christmas with this lovely fall weather we are having here....
Hugs,
Penny
I have never seen restaurant china like this Becky, either I haven't been looking or it is more prevalent where you live? In any case, it really is beautiful! I can't think about Christmas until the week before Thanksgiving. As a retailer you, of course, have to be a little bit more ahead of the season, I would have a hard time getting inspired as soon as some of the stores do though! Have a great week, and have fun with your Christmas merchandising!
ReplyDeleteI love those dishes. I really like the pattern on them. I have always had a fondness for the patterned dishes like this.
ReplyDeleteThose are cute elves!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is hard to think Christmas when it is in the 80's!
The dishes are fabulous. I love when they used to have patterns and colors...now everything is white.
ReplyDeleteLove your elves!!
XO,
Jane
Love those dishes! I collect old "diner" ware too, in the green and white shades. Use them all the time. Kit
ReplyDeleteI love the pretty old dishes too, especially red and white. Now about Christmas...I have to wait awhile. It's 90 degrees here today. :)
ReplyDeletei am nuts over red and white, and they
ReplyDeleteare so practical. they go from Christmas
to valentine's day!
I love the dishes, and had no idea that was what I have been seeing at some of the shops! I am in total denial about the holidays!! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love your red dishes! I don't know what I was thinking of a few years ago when I painted our kitchen rust. I have ALWAYS had red accents, but if there's one color that doesn't work with red, it's rust. Repainting the kitchen on my very LONG to-do list.
ReplyDeleteOh....I so love that redware.... :o) Have a wonderful week ahead! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteI've always liked the weight of restaurant ware. Your red pieces are lovely, I don't think I've seen red restaurant ware before.
ReplyDeleteToo soon for Christmas in the stores. I saw a sign from Neiman Marcus the other day (on FB) that said they would not be decorating until late November, that there were other holidays to celebrate first. Yay! If only other retailers would do the same thing.

Hi Becky! I LOVE restaurant china, too. You have a lovely collection! I agree that yours certainly are perfect for the holidays - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love red transfer too!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I'm not at all ready to think about Christmas yet.
I could use some elves to help too.
Please let me know where I can hire a couple!
Oh those dishes! I should have gone with those instead of my crate and barrel dishes that are not holding up well at all. Or perhaps I need to be on the lookout for some white ironstone? I need to drive out and see your space at the Antique Mall!!! jules
ReplyDeleteI love the restaurant ware. My dad was a cook and we had several pieces over the years. They are so substantial, and hardly ever chip. I now buy the "new" ware from "Dented Chef". I still have my brown little tea pot, it was my "sick tea pot" that my dad brought home just for me,
ReplyDeletefrom the place where he worked..I wonder if he paid for it lol. Always enjoy your blogging Kath

You and I have the same love affair. I am always looking for red restaurant dishes. The restaurant dishes have been in service for 60-70 years and they are still going strong. They are hard to find in my area, but when I find them I grab them up :-)

The red transferware is so pretty...and you're right! Perfect for so many ocassions.
ReplyDeleteIs there a shortcut from the east coast to the west? I'd love to visit your space in the Antique Mall!!
Red is such a great color. My all time favorite. I love the dishes. I need substantial in this house.
ReplyDeleteOh Becky...I love those old red patterns - so pretty!
