Hello one and all! Can you believe it is already September? Where oh where
did summer go? Where does time go? Did it slip into my back pocket? It certainly seems so, however there is no taking back the days once they pass.
The past month was a doozy with all that went on with our family. Not only did I lose my beloved mother, I totaled my car on the way back from one of the trips up to her home in the mountains. Darn rocks in the road! Nobody was hurt, just my little 11 year old Volvo is all. The night before leaving for the long trip to mom’s, I had a feeling that something horrible was going to happen on the trip. On the way up a large piece of metal was kicked up onto the windshield from a logging truck that had passed, leaving a huge chip/crack – and smack-dab in the line of vision, too. And then on the way home we were mainly watching for deer and bear – but it ended up being a “rocky road” that was our demise. A rock rolled off the mountain and into the path of my car! The rock rattled really good under the car and punctured my oil pan. Oil was everywhere! Had there not been an oncoming car and a car behind me, I could have carefully swerved to miss the rock.
Luckily, just ahead on the side of a road was a dirt turnout. I was able to pull the car right over and shut the engine down…as black gold flowed like a tar river from under my car. God took care of us and we were able to flag down a nice young man who drove me up the hill so I could get phone service. Right after the young man pulled over, a Sheriff’s truck was passing by with lights and sirens on.
My first thought was, “WOW! That was a fast response!! How did he know!?” However, he was responding to an accident further down the canyon road. He did radio the California Highway Patrol who, in turn, dispatched a tow truck to the scene. Because the car was filled to the brim with some of my mother’s artwork and antiques, we opted to have it towed home rather than to a repair shop. And because I don’t have a PREMIER roadside service (which is up to 250 miles for a tow), the tow home was $1400.00. (Note to self: next year spend that extra $30.00 to get the Premier roadside service!)
A few days after I got home, God blessed me with a call from our insurance company. They said that they were going to pay for that tow home! Yes! Can you believe that? I just cried – I am like that, very weepy over good news and TV commercials.
Prayers being sent to those who have lost more than just a silly car. My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones and their homes because of the fires that rage in Texas and the flooding and hurricane destruction that has gone on back east. Would you please send God a little prayer for Kathy Sue…her precious home is very near the path of the fire where she lives in Texas. LOVE you, Kathy!
**Peace to all….**
I am so glad you are okay! I would have paid to have the car towed to my house also if it had my mother's precious things in it too! So glad the insurance company refunded your money!
ReplyDeleteI will say a prayer for Kathy. The fires are terrible and so many people affected by them.
Hugs,
Donna
Overwhelmed I am by the goodness of God in your recent troubles. I know that this is a rough road you're on for a bit, but He is faithful as you lean hard on Him. Sending love.
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, I loved that cheery hello. It pulled me right in!
Hello my sweet friend ---

ReplyDeleteGod's grace never ceases to amaze me. I would have cried after that phone call too.
Hugs. Trish
I will pray for Kathy Sue and all the other involved in the natural disasters, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were protected from any injury and all worked out well with the insurance. Sorry about the car.
The Lord was certainly with you in the midst of it all!
That is all just scary but so glad the Ins. company paid for you! So sorry about your mom, boy, you have been through a lot..sending you a BIG hug! :D
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your mother. I can't believe the bad luck with the rock. What a wonderful thing that they paid for the tow. You didn't have a choice.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your car.....and even though like you said others have lost so much.......you can still feel bad.
Do you know where Sadie Mae is. Cindy has been so busy moving into her house on wheels. I told her I would see if I could locate her.
(((((HUGS)))))
You really have been through the mill, Becky. So sorry about the loss of your mother and the accident. Sending many prayers your way.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Becky I am so glad to see you didn't forget about all of us....and that
ReplyDeleteyou are well. I forgot about Kathy Sue's house being that close, thanks for reminding me. I will say a prayer for her. She has a
beautiful home and I sure hope it
stops before it gets to her.
I am so glad your insurance covered your towing. We have a friend that owns a towing service so when my daughter and her family broke down in Mississippi on their way to vacation I brought them my
suburban and I got to ride back with him towing their suburban all the way back to Louisiana. What fun riding in that big truck, yea right fun. Only a good mom would give up her vehicle for a week...huh. LOL. Oh and their insurance paid too...thank goodness.
Wow...You were fortunate with your car accident but it must have been pretty scary none the less. We had a Volvo once and we were traveling at a good pace down a dark road. There was a dead deer laying in the road that we didn't see until it was to late and swerving wasn't an option. We had to go right over it. It was a bit bouncy and noisy but we fared well. I love Volvo's. I'm glad you're OK and your insurance company came through!
ReplyDeleteWow! With all the bad... there is good! God knows... He always knows!
ReplyDeleteGlad your okay and that you saved the heirlooms! :) Is there a new vehicle in your future?
~Liz
Sweet Becky, glad you are home and OK. Your friend Kathy is in my prayers. Sure hope things start looking up for you. A cheery hello to you too.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers are going out for Kathy Sue. I am happy that you are doing so well. God has blessed you with a good spirit. You always have a good outlook. Love you Becky. See you soon.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear that you are okay and secondly, that your dear cargo survived the wreck as well. I'm especially happy to hear that your insurance company came to your rescue. I work in an agent's office and my daughters are both claim adjuster and I know we're always blessed when we can give good news to one of our clients.
ReplyDeleteWhat a time you've had - I'm so sorry to read about it all.
ReplyDeleteThe situation in Texas is awful - we are praying for those whose homes are in danger and those who have lost everything.
It's so funny, because when I sat down to visit blogs I had the thought "where has the time gone..summer just began."
ReplyDeleteMy love to you..
Mona
Thank goodness you are okay. A car can be repaired or replaced. And I would have cried over the insurance as well. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know how hard it is to sort through parents things after they are gone. I think I was the most surprised that my Daddy kept greeting cards! We found dozens and dozens from years past. It's sometimes the little things that mean the most.
Take care.
Colleen

Hi Becky.. I was just found some time to blog, and read my favorite blogs, I realized it had been a month..where does the time go ? I am sorry to hear about your Mom's passing,I had my mother for 50 years, so thankful, yet I did not want to let her go..even though she was so ready, we can be selfish that way. Your experience on the road sounded like a nightmare...so glad you got home safe and sound. Thinking of you during this difficult time- Kathy
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are Ok...and your Mother's treasures too. I feel so bad about all those that have lost so much in all these bad weather events...it breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteBecky, I am so very, very grateful God protected you through all the road trauma. Praise God for his kindness through the insurance reimbursement.
ReplyDeleteHope Kathy and home are OK.
Hugs and love,
Laura
