There is just a song that sings in my heart when I see the look of contentment and pure joy when Duhgall and Fiona get to run at the beach. As soon as we unleash their lead, off they go. Freedom! Alas! They run as fast as their little four-inch legs can go. Chasing each other like little children – back and fourth, back and fourth.
The song that came to my mind, as I edited these photos, was Vangelis’ Chariots Of Fire. Remember Jack Black singing the little ditty of the song to Kate Winslet in the movie (my favorite) The Holiday?
Little Duhgall and Fee, run along now….
Tis okay Duhgall to run with reckless abandon – be free – stretch your legs and enjoy the moment! Sing with laughter and dance like a dervish!
….and off he goes to catch up with his sister.
The soft mist rolled along the ground and up and over the dunes. Rather peaceful and mystical, but this didn’t slow down the dogs. Fiona is off and running! Ears back and the wind in her hair – she is a happy little girl!
They are best of friends! Fiona must be saying something like, “Neener, neener, neener Doogie – I can run faster!”
I think Doogie must have said something like, “You think so, little sister!? Watch me kick it into Doogie P. fast action style!”
Tongue waggin’ good times!
Starting to slow down now to a walk, we stroll down the beach in hopes of finding a little shell or even a heart shaped rock. We did find a little granite rock in the shape of a heart – a little gift from above for that day! ;)
Duhgall is pointing something out to me in the sand as Fiona walks ahead. It ended up being a broken sand dollar.
It felt as though we were all alone on this stretch of beautiful hard sand, but ahead we see silhouettes of people. Kind of reminds me of the Stephen King movie “The Mist” – just not as creepy though.
The dogs have worn themselves down. Taking the time to reflect on the morning and catch a glimpse of the forever stretching and glorious ocean before leaving.
Duhgall is quite the gentleman and waits for me to catch up to them before heading out. I do believe that they need a drink! Right doggies?
note: They both slept great that night!
A fun day – one to remember forever.

ReplyDeleteSweet Becky!
ReplyDeleteI do believe this is one of my very FAVORITE post EVER...that I have EVER come across on a blog!
Maybe because I can relate to that breath taking feeling that YOU have when you finally get to unleash those fur-babies and see them RUN!
Run and ROMP with the greatest of GLEE!
Every picture just captivated me!
Fiona and Mr. Dughall are just adroable!
Doogan is our fur-ball!
He has a favorite WIDE open beach that he gets to RUN and ROMP and EXPLORE freely!
I would love to send you the slideshow of our Doogie Boy romping on his favorite beach here in the Pacific Northwest!
If you will email me...I will email you back with the slideshow!

ReplyDeleteOh, this looks like a dream vacation for both you and the dogs!
ReplyDeleteAnd...'The Holiday' is one of my favorite movies too. Wish we were neighbors, we could watch it...again...together!
Have a fabulous Friday. ~Natalie
Such a perfect post today with the music. Your dogs are just THE BESTEST!

Those Scottie dogs always make me smile! Today they made me laugh out load!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the photos ~ thanks to Mr. SCD for taking them!
I just found your blog and read your post about your son Jordan. I am so very sorry. Unfortately you and I are members of the same club...the club for parents who have lost a child. In 1986 we lost our darling nine-year old daughter. I still miss her so very much even today. My heart goes out to you. I loved your post about the farmhouse...it's dreamy! I have also enjoyed reading some of your older posts. I'll be back to visit again.
ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet email. It really helped me in my decision. I cannot tell you how happy we are that we found Lucy Lu. I love having a little boy and a little girl! She's doing great as is Jackson.
Those photos of Dugs and Fiona are priceless.
Thanks for being my friend.

What a beautiful post and how fun to run free.
ReplyDeleteAwwww. I am just lovin' this post. They had a doggone blast I can tell...
ReplyDeleteI was sitting here just smiling away as I scrolled down and my son came back here to tell me that my Kobe was covered in mud from his head to the tip of his tail, which can only mean he went and dug up something BIG time and then jumped in the doggy pool and then went back to dig again...Oh DRAT!!! My smile has turned to a frown...Your doggies are so SWEET!!! My ONE digger is being a BEAST!!!
WEll I enjoyed my visit here, Got to go and do my duty...sigh...Wish I had an ocean for him just to swim out in and clean himself up...
(collie/golden mix) oh the fur will be a mess!! (so will I!)
Have a great weekend Becky!
It's a dogs life! And we get to be a part of it! Great photos- looks like a great day, had by one and all.
ReplyDeleteOh Becky that was a wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteEvery morning my neighbor and I
walk 3mi. and on that walk we see
a black scottie. I think of Doogs
every morning when I see him. He
always barks at us even though we
walk by him every morning. Doogs
and Fiona look like they really
enjoyed themselves. I bet they
are ready to go back too. ":O)
Made me smile, too. But I laughed when I read the "neener, neener" part. My sister and I say that to each other. Wonderful post. Thank you for sharing.

So fun for doggies and their parents! Is that near Santa Cruz? My great grandfather was born in Soquel way back before California was a state! Love that part of the country. The farmhouse is wonderful. I do miss California and the cooler summers on the coast. Mimi
ReplyDeleteI had a song in my heart as well as I read and looked at the pictures in this post! The beach is beautiful and they doggies look so free. I can see why they slept so well!! :-)

Isn't it grand to take a stroll on the beach. Your doggies couldn't be happier.
ReplyDeleteSuch cute doggies. There is nothing like watching your dogs enjoying life to the fullest. No worries, no sorrows just the wind in their ears and a smile on their face. My labs would love this.
ReplyDeleteYour poochies are so adorable I just want to grab there cute little cheeks and kiss them or not! The pictures and your writing really make me chuckle and the house in the previous post...well I am still wiping the drool off of my chin! ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend

Sweet little soggy doggies! I am always amazed at how Fiona is growing up. I still think of her at a few months old. She's a big girl now.
ReplyDeleteThose are the best pictures. I especially love the one where it looks like Fiona has all four paws off the ground and is flying free! I wish I could trust Maggie off leash like that. I'm sure she would be in Long Beach before we could stop her!!!
ReplyDeleteOh those two are just .....ohhh I can't even describe um! There is nothin like a scottie! Mine is sleeping like log as I type. Please give them each a smooch for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great post!
Beth
I do believe I could hear that music too!
ReplyDeleteRosie loves to go to the beach - the emptier the beach, the better!
Becky, is that the Morro Bay area? Where do you stay at the coast that is doggy friendly? We'd like to take Buster boy to the beach but the one place we like to stay in Cambria is $$$$ in the summer. Also, can you tell me where that darling yellow coast cottage you posted about is?
ReplyDeleteLaurie
Great post and wonderful pictures. I'm very curious on how you deal with all the sand? Our Connor boy is like a dust mop...everything just clings to his long Scottie hair. Perhaps one day we will take him to the ocean. PS: He is going to get his short summer cut next week...just can't deal with the heat these days. Yvonne :)
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet photos Becky. Chariots of Fire is playing in my head now :-) I'm glad you're having fun at the beach.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marcia
Sometimes I wish life was as uncomplicated for me as it is for your sweet dogs.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely to receive your kind comment today. I spent the day remembering my dear younger brother who passed away at the age of 21. He would have been 41 today (it is his birthday). I know you can relate to this.
I had a nice chat on the phone to my Mum (we live in different countries), and we talked about Danny and what a special person he was. God also encouraged me as my devotional reading this morning was all about Daniel.
This post was also an encouragement
:o)

What a fun post Becky. The dogs look like they are loving every minute of it. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post Becky! What a joy it is to see your two darlings having so much fun. Bentley and I love playing on the beach too, especially when it's full of mist. Thank you for the very lovely time!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley

These pictures were so wonderful. What cute dogs. So much fun seeing all the fun they were having. Great photos. I would frame them and put them everywhere.
ReplyDeleteTHis post absolutely made my day!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Mr Sweet Cottage Dreams. What fun those dogs were having.
ReplyDeleteBecky, this is such a sweet post - there is nothing like watching a Scottie run!! Even if you are in hot pursuit trying to catch them.
ReplyDeleteWow, what beautiful pictures Becky. How wonderful to be able to spend the day in such beauty. Thanks for taking us with you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great little post, and your husband did a great job with the photos. I also just read the last post on that little yellow cottage. I love it! That is just about the color we are going to paint our house once the addition is built. How sweet!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
~Debbie~
Oh, Becky, these two are just so precious beyond words! I can't tell you how much I love reading about them and seeing your awesome pictures! Was this by chance over by Dillon's Beach or Bodega Bay area? I swear I saw that wonderful farm house somewhere up here in the Sonoma area. Thanks for sharing. Jan
ReplyDeleteMy two Yorkies wouldn't know what to do if they saw the vast ocean. They've only seen my tiny pond! There's nothing more fun than watching dogs having a good time in my book.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteWoW! such great photo's of the (kids). Mr. Sweet Cottage Dreams has a way with the camera. Gary keeps trying to teach me how to use our camera, and I keep trying!!.
Looks like you had a wonderful time. We haven't even had a weekend free yet to go to the beach. Soon I hope.
I need to feel some "COOL" breeze! it was so stinken hot this weekend. We just came in from planting in the front yard. It was just to hot to do any gardening during the day. I think I shall become "the night gardener"LOL.
See you soon,big hugs~Elizabeth
It makes me smile just to see those little cuties....they are so adorable.
ReplyDeleteHuggies,
Spencer
They remind be of Gidget and Moon-doggie. Gee, I think I'm aging myself. What a fun day at the beach. La
ReplyDeleteBecky, seeing you walk on the beach makes me sad. Please pray for us on the Gulf Coast. Maybe one day we will be able to walk on pristine beaches without oil on them. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteahhhhh they are just divine dogs, i wished i lived near you to share the beach and i just know the Bob would adore Miss Fiona!! ;) Nothing beats a sandy beach with the mist rolling in....thank you for making me smile today!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Emma xxx

ReplyDeleteI LOVE your pictures. They look like they are having such a good time. I'm sure my little scotties would love the ocean, but since we live inland they will just have to settle for their backyard. They still have lots of fun and we get to enjoy them.
Thanks SO MUCH for sharing!
What great photo's!
ReplyDeletesitting here in my office - my dogs around me - dreaming about beach.
It's so wonderful seeing the dogs enjoying freedom.
many greetings from germany.
sandra
Such nice photos! Walking along the beach listening to the waves crash onto the shore is the best! For me it is at the Cape (Cape Cod) in MA.
ReplyDeleteThat's how our "little Pearl" was at the beach too! Run...run like the wind!
ReplyDeleteThey both look like they are having a ball!
And these photos right here are a book in the making.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images and the sweetest dogs ever..... wow! I adore your babies and you.
xo,
Kim
Pure glee!!!!! Pure fun!!!! I am grinning from ear to ear, enjoying the moment as if I had been there with you. Don't you love how their beards fly backwards as they run? I could watch them forever.
ReplyDeleteNow, who had to bathe them?
What a sweet post! I love dogs and like nothing better than to see them just be and have fun. Great pictures - I felt like was there!
