What to do on a Friday afternoon?
Well, my hubby and youngest son decided to leave work early
and head over for lunch at a favorite San Francisco eatery.
A total guy time kind of a day - and that was fine - they need the time together to be ...well, you know....just guys.
So these photos are from the behind the lens of my husband - with his new zippy-d0-wow Canon camera. So come along for a little of what they took in for the day. Above is Alcatraz Island in San Francisco.
Some boats on the water.....
...and my sweet son just taking it all in.
Some boats on the water.....
...and my sweet son just taking it all in.
Of course, if you have been to San Francisco, this Ghiradelli landmark will be quite familiar to you. Oh, and the chocolate shop - a must go to!!! But I don't think the boys did that today...only with mom.
a quiet memorial to those who have served our country.
Makes me stop and think about each special person who was layed to rest here. Who were they and what stories do they have to tell to all of us?
.....sigh.....
As they leave San Francisco, they take a pause to look over the skyline....
.....and to take a photo of the Golden Gate bridge.
This side of the bridge is on the Marin Headlands, which had a fire going on on this particular day...hence the haze.
The drive there is breathtaking with the old and gnarly cypress trees that create a canopy over sections of the road.
Ahhhh...the beauty of nature. God was sneaking in rays of light through the trees just to marvel at. Funny how He gives us moments like this that just simply take our breath away. Makes me think of Heaven shining down on earth.....just to give us hope and joy.
A little visitor to bid you adieu.....
....and happy trails to you......
....until we meet again.
Thank you for taking us along on the trip. May God bless your family.

Hi Becky :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful post. I MISS California (sigh). I loved going to San Fran for the day, especially the shops!! I must admit though, I have never been to the Point Reyes lighthouse. After looking at all those stairs, I think it's probably a good idea that I have never been, I might not have survived those stairs! LOL
Have a great weekend,
Toni
Maybe a little trip up the hill is due..or a trip down the hill ;o)..blessings my friend.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the guys had a great time, and what wonderful photographs he took. I enjoyed my little cyber trip. laurie
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures. I have not been to Ca. since I was little. Think it sounds like a great future trip.
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to your posts :)
Blessings, Misha

ReplyDeleteVERY nice set of photos...thanks for taking the time to post them for us...especially someone like me who has never been to that area of the country.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like they had a beautiful day, The cyprus trees and sunlight look like something in a fairy tale. Only guys would not visit a chocolate factory when it is within eyesight! lol:>)
ReplyDeleteIt's 6:30 in the morning here and I Just took the dogs out. It's the first time this season I can see my breath outside. It's concerning to me because I know what's ahead for the months to come. The pictures your husband took are lovely and makes me wish our days here could stay warmer much longer. Your post also encourages me to take a much needed trip just with my daughters. I know they would love it and bonding is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day and the photos are breathtaking!!
ReplyDeleteI always keep you in my prayers, you.. your Family and those sweet puppies of yours!!!
Love the post below.. ohh the ironstone....I just love it all!!!

Lovely photos of what looks like a wonderful day with Dad and Son together. I always marvel when the sun's rays peek through, too. It is very beautiful and spiritual to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your guys had a great time together.

This is good. I am glad the guys got some time together. I know from our own family how much that men sometimes need to share time together--especially in grief. They seem to be able to express things to each other with and without words. I love the photograph of your son with the words, penny for your thoughts under it. Hugs and my prayers to you all,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteOh yes we have been there and its so beautiful. The last time we went wasn't quiet as pretty. It was raining like mad and very foggy!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures, they were breath-taking, like you said, thanks for sharing them....very calming to look at this bright sunday morning in Florida...
ReplyDeletehugs

What wonderful photos! They would make a nice photo book!
ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteThe guys did a wonderful job for your post. Great, thoughtful photos. Loved the close up of the bridge.
Streams of light through the darkness, reflections off the water ~ both magical and heavenly.
It would have been nice to have some chocolate through. ;)
Hugs,
Dawn
Hi Becky, just pesky ol' me again.
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you at my blog if you'd like to accept it.
When I started blogging I saw all these beautiful awards and thought the creativity behind them and the thoughtfulness of them was very special. I didn't realize they came with strings and was curious why some bloggers were "Award Free". Well, rules sometimes must give way to practicality so if you can only pass it on to a few people that is fine with me. Even if you can't play along please accept this award and my sincere belief that you deserve it.
Hugs
Dawn
I'm so glad that Mr. SCD and son got to have a father/son day. What a perfect place to have it, too. You know me, I want to know where they ate lunch!!
ReplyDeleteNow, I think it's our turn for a girls day out. Let's hit the road and go search for adventure and food!!! Maybe we could follow P & E. Wouldn't that be a hoot!?!
It looks like the boys had a great day trip together! Makes me miss home. Being so close to San Fran sure is nice. I just love all the pictures. I had no idea Barry was such a great photographer! They are so beautiful!

My favorite place in California and I haven't been in a few years...not even to a Giant's game. I think it's way past time for me to go. I think I left my heart there. It's calling me!
ReplyDeleteHow good is it that they got to spend some true QUALITY time together. Love the sights...especially the sailboat ones! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of a beautiful place. I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo. I surely do miss the coast living here in Utah now. Mimi

I just happened to wander here and enjoyed it so much! We spent our honeymoon in San Francisco--(a small elegant hotel The Raphael that I believe is still there) I loved seeing the pictures and stirring up memories--beautiful! Thanks for sharing-I enjoyed my visit!
ReplyDeleteBecky, you are welcome anytime! :)
ReplyDeleteI spent the first six months of my married life with Patrick in San Francisco...We first lived on Turk St. and then Ellis..I had my very first job at the Strand theatre on Market St. I applied for an office job as that was what I was trained for..but because I was married to a young Marine they wouldn't hire me. They said they would just train me and then I would leave. So...
I see those pictures...and
remember.
My youngest child, Dawn, now lives n Santa Cruz. I may come for a visit soon...maybe after I recover from the surgery. I would like that.
Apple pie! Doesn't that sound wonderful...heated with ice cream? HAS to be homemade though!
Hugs...:)
Mona
