Up-Scale

There is just something so nostalgic to me about old metal things with numbers...old clocks...
old rulers...old thermometers and old scales. I found this old metal air mail scale last
week and just LOVE it! It is perfect to use to "up-scale" the vignette on the entry hall table.
This scale allows me to add height to this little vignette of an old clock, Syrocco squirrel tray and a metal flower frog that holds a favorite old photo. It is also just a fun and funky piece to have around the house.
I love to layer and here is an old suitcase topped with a great old book and an ironstone plate with a bird's nest and cloche.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to only mail a local item for a mere .07 cents?
Man, times have changed! Sure wish we could "scale" things back (yeh, pun intended).

  3. Love your scale! I found one several years ago for a few dollars and it reminded me of my Grandfather. He was a Post Master. I use mine for height too and am constantly changing what's on it and around it! Enjoy yours!!!

  4. That's a sweet vignette...not romantic as in roses and lace, just sweet as in charm. Yes, wouldn't it be nice to scale back on those things that weigh us down?!

  7. Hi Becky,
Great, great find! Very nice grouping. I can't believe mail postage used to be so inexpensive. It so happens... I just got back from the post office and thought how crazy expensive it is to mail a package. Thanks for taking us back.

  8. Becky, How I wish you lived close by and could come help me set up by booth for the Memorial Day Flea Market - I have the best spot in the whole place - the old post office. I don't have to run if it rains because it's inside.

Thanks for inspiring me with your gracious style.

  15. Hi Becky,
I was at an antique show a few weeks ago and saw the coolest scale! I would have loved to buy it, but it was close to $1000.00 dollars. Darn! Just $20.00 over my budget. Hahahaha

Love the way you have it all displayed. Especially with that lovely old suitecase. Very cute!

    Patricia :o)

PS: Aren't you glad you're too far to feel that earthquake? My daughter is visiting family in CA when it hit. And last year when my son was visiting, he also got to ride one out. I guess my kids really like to shake things up when they visit!

  21. Old pieces always bring me to wonder about the first owner. The person who went into the store and bought the state-of-the-art "whatever", brought it home and was so pleased that he or she had something "modern".

I collect vintage linens. Sometimes when I'm laundering them or standing at my ironing board I'll wonder about the hands that made my precious item. How old were they, how long did they live, why their family chose not to keep their labor of love.

Guess I'm just a sop for nostalgia but there's just something so comforting about having pieces of the past around my home.
