Titled: 365 Ways To Cook Hamburger.
Yeh! A recipe a day! (yea, right!).
I wonder if Zsa Zsa Gabor would have made these Hungarian Meat Balls?
They sound really good and very easy so I thought I'd give them a try.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl...
Make the little balls and put them on top of parchment paper (my new friend - thanks to a tip from a very sweet expert cook friend). Parchment is fabulous and easy to clean up - just wad up the paper and you will have a clean pan underneath!
Bake....hmmmmm.....they smelled devine!
A lovely dish....I recommend that you give it a try!
Recipe:
1 lb hamburger (I used ground chuck - you could use ground turkey, too)
1 large clove finely chopped garlic
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs (I used 3/4 cup)
1 egg, slightly beaten (I used 2 - by mistake and that is why I added more bread crumbs)
3 Tblsp. minced parsley
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
Form into small balls. (note: The recipe called to brown the balls on all sides in 1/4 cup cooking fat seasoned with 1 tsp Kitchen Bouquet). To keep down the fat in the recipe, I baked them at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Mix together in a seperate pot:
1 - 4 oz can chopped or sliced mushrooms
2 cups sour cream (low fat is fine)
2 Tblsp flour
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Add the meat balls, cover and cook slowly for 20 minutes.
Serve over cooked wide egg noodles.
Serves 4.

ReplyDeleteYummy! I love old cookbooks. We bought a cottage that was full of books. There must have been 250 cookbooks alone! The man was a gourmet cook. We have since moved and I had to downsize, so I kept 35of my favorites. Hsve used them many times. I will make Cowboy the meatballs! Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious! I wonder how it would work with ground turkey? Now that my husband is recovering from heart surgery, we're trying to substitute whenever we can. So far, I've made some great chili and a pasta dish with the ground turkey that turned out really well. So the meat balls should work well too.

ReplyDeleteOh my that does sound good. I will have to try the meatball recipe this weekend. I know the model of the Rose Lane home you are referring too, its the biggest one and yes it is grand. We bought our home four years ago and it had been a rental so it needed some TLC. We bought our home as our retirement home. I wish it was bigger especially when the family is over it can become very small real quick, but just for the two of us its a perfect size.

ReplyDeleteGuess what! I totally made this for dinner tonight! of course I made wayyyyyyyyyy tooooooo much! I used 1 lb venison and 1 lb ground beef! I made 12 huge meatballs in a 9X13 pan! hehe! They were like mini-meatloaves! I also diced up 1/2 an onion super small and put it in there!

ReplyDeleteThose meatballs look fantastic -- and I like the recipe. I will make one change when I try it -- I can't help myself. My Mom was a bit of a health nut cook, and always used oatmeal instead of bread crumbs in meatloaf and meatballs, so I will do that also. I'll let you know how they turn out!
