What? What is this? Hold on now, this is an informative post, not like the usual homemaking/collecting/girly type post, but one that any of you who own a dog should read. This week has been a little trying. You see, my little Scotty Dog, Mr. D. (D for EVERYTHING is D-Licious) has been a sick little wee one. Each morning he has vomitted, however he didn't really show distress because he ate and did his number two just fine. But we took him to the vet and after an xray of his tummy, we found a UFO - unidentifed forgeign object in his stomach. The pic above is not him, but a dog that swallowed a KNIFE! Go to:http://www.dogguide.net/blog/2007/12/the-most-shocking-things-ever-found-inside-of-a-dogs-stomach/ for some interesting reading and more photos. Below is the knife taken from a dog's stomach. Perhaps it was a circus dog, who knows, but our guy has what appears to be a little metal twist tie in him. Just big enough to have to go in and remove, non-surgically we hope.
Our vet was telling us about the different things that have been removed from her patient's stomachs.... a little pink toy purse, a film canister, a necklace...just to name a few. So, if you have dogs, you may want to read up on the symtoms that come with swallowing a UFO and the treatment for removing them.

Here Doogs is sniffing a little gift of doggies treats. These he CAN have!
"See, Doogs, this is WHAT you CAN eat!" Now the pins and needles bit of this post is a two fer - one for being on pins and needles over my sick pooch and then having accomplished a bit of sewing, not as much as I had wanted - but finished these two springtime pillows. Both are available on eBay, under Cottage*Dreams.
I just wanted to tell everyone thank you for your wonderful comments that were left on my last post. You are all so very sweet! Now I am off to do more cleaning and to get things ready to launch on my ETSY, which is coming along. Mary, over at Isabella's Closet, made me my sweet banner for the ETSY and the one that you see at the top of my blog. Mary does such wonderful work ~ thank you, Mary!
So sorry about your pup's woes....sure hope it passes without surgery.
ReplyDeleteLove the pillows! :-) Rosie
Hi Becky ;I am so glad to see you back, soory to hear about Doogs I know how little ones can worry us when they are sick.
ReplyDeleteI havent been posting for a while I have been busy working and there just isn't much going on around here, but we did get a big snow here in Ky Fiday night.
Best Wishes
Brenda:)
Oh I know all about this! My Maxie had to have surgery because he swallowed the squeaky from a toy and a rubberband. Now we are very careful to remove those squeaky toys once he's had the fun of pulling the stuffing out (because he will also swallow the stuffing). Sorry to hear about Doogs - hopefully he'll be back to normal soon. Dogs are like babies you have to watch them every minute!
ReplyDeleteLove, Love the pillows!
Manuela

Thanks for posting about Doog's mishap. It is a reminder to consider these possibilities when the critters go awry. I am excited to see you ETSY shop! Lots of luck, but you won't need it, your stuff on Ebay flys off the "shelves"! Love ya more! Fancy Pants
ReplyDeleteOh no! Poor Doogs! Will they be able to use something to make him vomit it out or a laxitive? The poor thing. How did he ever decide to eat something like that? Silly little guy. Eat only the yummies your mommy gives you. Big doggie hugs to Doogs!
ReplyDeleteHow are things Becky? It sounds like you are busy if you have decided to do an Etsy shop now. Are you sewing alot now? I hope you got your taxes done. We have to do ours. Jos does it and has to even start it.
Hope you Sunday is wonderful and that Doogs is doing okay today!

ReplyDeleteBecky,
ReplyDeletePoor Mr. D! I'm so sorry to hear about his bad eating habits. I can't imagine how stressful this must be to all of you. Please let us all know as soon as possible how he's doing. And give him a big hug from me!
Patricia :o)
I am so sorry to hear your puppy's not well! I just wanted to let you know--I LOVE the music on your blog....it's very eclectic and I tune it in when I'm ironing. It makes my time go so much quicker. I love the look of pressed, ironed clothing, but HATE to iron. Go figure! Nevertheless, thanks for the music!
ReplyDeleteHope your little guy is feeling better soon and that the little twist tie passes. I have to watch that I don't drop anything on the floor with our doggie.
ReplyDeleteI always panic when our little Bully is sick. He gets his stitches out tomorrow and the splint removed from his leg. I'm not sure who will be happier...Bully or us!!!
Sending you best wishes and hoping Mr. Doogs is feeling better soon without surgery... He is just gorgeous....
ReplyDeletep.s. I used to have a sweet, sweet Scotty name Riley. May he rest in peace...
Poor baby.. what are they gonna do?
ReplyDeleteOh Becky, I hope Doogs is going to be okay. I totally understand because Jackson is my baby and when he is sick, it is very upsetting. I am glad the vet found out what was wrong with him. Get well Doogs from Jackson!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
LeAnn :)
What a sweet puppy you have there! Who knew what dogs can actually ingest!! lol

We went through something similiar last summer with our dog, he had eaten a plastic bag from the grocery store!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it was miserable for all of us. I was so scared. After it all passed, he was fine. Those little ones can be very sneaky!!
Hope everything turns out to be fine,
Stephanie

ReplyDeleteAlthough your post was very serious and helpful to all dog owners I had to laugh when I saw the doggie x-ray. My first thought was "Been there, done that" although not to such an extreme as the knife.
ReplyDeleteI once had the spring of a stapler explode when I was filling the thing and staples went everywhere. I thought I'd cleaned them up until I saw one of our dogs gobbling something under the desk. Off to the vet we went for x-rays that showed he only ate one. The vet said let it pass.
One of our current dogs thinks ANYTHING on the floor is edible. We monitor the floors carefully, but when I accidentally dropped a big plastic tie with jagged edges that had held a bag of muffins closed, we trucked off to the vet again, this time in the middle of the night. A little hydrogen peroxide later, out it came.
I hope your doggie is feeling better.
Hi Becky
ReplyDeleteNow that explains poor Mr Doogs recent sickness.. thank goodness you found out what was causing it.
Poor chap... sending him my love!
We have just had the Crufts dog show over here and I thought of dear Mr Doogs.. he would have loved it!

So here I am not able to sleep (It's 3:39 AM) and I say to myself..."Let's visit Becky- she always has soothing posts and pretty pictures." So I click on the Becky link on my blog..and I see some bony ribs. "huh?" I say to self. I must have clicked the wrong link...where are the hearts? the dolls? the whimsical knick knacks? Yikes! Becky's dog has swallowed a kitchen utensil!!!! Oh my....I am so glad your dog is okay. You know I have a "Scottie" thing- can't stand to see one suffering.
ReplyDeleteHope the healing is fast and easy.
Hi Becky!
ReplyDeleteIs Doogs doing ok now? Oh those pics were scary, I can't bring myself to click on the link to see the rest, lol!
Can't wait to see your etsy store!!! xo
Hello Dear Becky, oh my I so hate to hear the news of Mr. Doggs. I pray all turns out well.
ReplyDeleteThe pillows you made are sooooo... pretty. I love them. Everything you create is just lovely.
I love your new banner. Mary is so wonderful at making them.
Blessings your way, Shelley
So sorry to hear about Doogy!!! We have a little Yorki-poo (the light of my life!) who at less than 1 year old, got horribly sick with vomiting. After fluids and medication, the symptoms returned the next morning and they did the x-ray of her tummy. Couldn't see what it was, it looked very cloud like! She had torn open a stuffed toy and we thought it might be fiberfill. IMAGINE OUR SURPRISE, when after the surgery, they showed us a meat wrapper! And I thought I was so careful, but she somehow must have gotten it out of the trash (from a package of ground beef) and it had been in her tummy for maybe a couple of weeks! She had gone to the vet a week or so before the vomiting, with diharrea, probably from the bacteria on the wrapper. Antibotics cleared that up, but the wrapper was to the point it was entering her intestines. She had to have surgery and mommy and daddy about had nervous breakdowns. We had the sweetest vet, who took our baby home with her the night of surgery, to to keep a close eye on her. She did great and has never tried to eat anything like that again. I panic everytime a pill or anything hits the floor.
ReplyDeleteHoping little Doogs is soon better and no surgery needed. Please update us!
tina
(it's hard when our furbabies are sick!)
hope your pup is okay...I'll say a little prayer!
ReplyDeleteYikes! Hope your pup is feeling better--I'm glad to know he didn't try the knife for a snack.

Please let us know about Doogs. He is such a heart throb. I love him. Having a sick furbaby is awful, I worry over mine like a mother hen, they are my only kiddos.
ReplyDeleteOh, poor Doogs! Hope everything "comes out" OK. Love your little pillows -- so cute!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Mary
My goodness, it is lucky for Mr. Doogs that you were paying attention. A mothers work is never done. Love the pillows! Susan
ReplyDeleteHi everyone ~ Just a little note to all, in case you are checking in. Doogs is at the vet right now and will hopefully be able to have the UFO removed with the endoscopy.
ReplyDeleteYou have all been so very sweet and my family appreciates the prayers, stories and best wishes. If I could, I'd drive over and give you a hug!
Will do a post when all said and done. I am doing more spring cleaning to keep my mind off of things. We keep on praying...
xo
Becky
I hope Doogs is doing a lot better.

Becky,
ReplyDeletePoor Mr. D. Hope he is on the mend soon!
Michelle plus Sparky and Taz too!
Oh Becky, poor Mr. Doogs :( I hope that all goes well and that he doesn't need surgery. Gigi sends her love.
ReplyDeleteOh those are Yummy pillows!!!!
Hugs,
Dena
Poor Doogs. Give him a hug for me. Were you able to tell what the foreign object was, and is it gone? Funniest story I ever heard was a lab eating a cell phone that was a Christmas present. They couldn't find the new phone so they called the number and the lab started ringing. ROFL Labs eat anything. We actually lost a lab that ate my pantyhose, so I can be paranoid about what goes in their mouths.
ReplyDeleteYour Etsy banner is a beauty! Mary's work is terrific! Promise to let me know when you list some things. You're going to do so well will all the beauties you sew!
Hugs,
Lallee
Any news on Doogs?

ReplyDeleteWow, that was really poor typing. Let me try again! :) Poor Doogs! I am glad to hear that he is ok though! That is no fun when you are worried for your dear four legged friends!
ReplyDeleteOh no, how an earth could Doogs have swallowed a needle? You would think it would be impossible for him to have picked it up off the floor. x
ReplyDeleteHi, I have just found your lovely blog and wanted to say you made me smile, your lovley little pooch sniffing the 'treats he can have'! I hope he is feeling better now, I am amazed at some of the things that are swallowed! I had a dog that ate a Bee once, we couldnt believe it, he just caught it in mid flight! ha,ha
ReplyDeleteSee you again soon
