Some R and R and Dreaming of Cabin Styles

After the hustle and bustle of Christmas and removing those once-a-year beloved objects, it was time for my husband and I to sit down and rest. He got plenty of books for Christmas, so it was off to the recliner for him. Myself, I wanted to catch up on my Christmas magazines and some favorite books. Nothing goes better with this book "Camps and Cottages" than a steaming cup of coffee with some whipped cream and chocolate on top. Page after page in this book brings back memories of cabins tucked amongst the Redwood trees...making S'Mores over an open campfire...telling spooky stories out in the woods...fishing for trout in an open stream...and the time I scalded my stomach at Girl Scout Camp whilst dipping my diddy bag of utensils in the hot steaming water and water spilled out on my bare stomach. oweeee! Taught me not to run around in my bathing suit anymore! Ok, back to cabin dreaming.....ha!
Being all cold and wintery outside, I found myself lost in this wonderful book with tons of photos of cabin style cottages, collections and beautiful rooms filled with all kinds of goodies.
Now, how can you not smile when you look at this Sock Monkey picture. I was amazed at how MANY of them there are and in all different styles. I made a Sock Monkey for my husband when we were dating. He had always wanted one. Not long after that he asked me to marry him. Thank you, Mr. Sock Monkey! I think you helped me to steal his heart.
An amazing collection of American Indian Dolls.
Love this old medical cabinet with the glass jars and pristine look of white folded towels.

A lovely collection of Hotel Silver. The green background really makes the silver pop.
I spy a little Scotty Dog! But I really took this picture for what it had to say. Like it says, pulling together anchor pieces and adding paint and textures really do bring a home together. I love mixing old and new together. Nothing has to be matchy-matchy and I say if you love it, then use it.
Sweet vintage children's watering cans.
A clever way to display your watering cans.
This looks like a wonderful bed to climb into and curl up with a good book!

Very Americana - love it!
Ok, how many of you would love this room in your home?
I am fond of this photo because it has a wonderful mix of textures...from the American Indain photo down to the Scottish looking plaid pillows. One of my favorite homes are log homes. We have always dreamt of having a log cottage somewhere. This looks like a great store and is soooo cute.
Isn't this old wardrobe brush cool?

Socks and Duhgall had to curl up on my hubby's lap and warm themselves in front of the fire.
It has been very cold here and a huge storm is blowing in tonight. I know that our friends in Florida are having a cold spell, too. We are just thankful to have some rain here in California, however we are suppose to have some flash floods in some parts of town.
For anyone who may be interested in finding the book that I featured here, it is:

I bought mine at Borders Book Store about five months ago. There are pages full of beautiful pictures from lodge, camp, adirondack and cottage styles. Perhaps it will even spark a need for a new collection for the New Year!!

  5. Happy New Year to my dear friend Becky!

I just wanted to let you know how blessed I am to have met you. You have helped to make blogging so much more fun than I ever imagined. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

On another note, I love that you made your husband a sock monkey when your were dating because he always wanted one. When my husband was a kid, he always wanted an Easy Bake Oven, but his parents would never get him one, too girly they probably thought. After we got married, I found one at a garage sale and bought it for him. He thought that was so funny. Anyway, I want to wish you and your adorable family a fabulous 2008!

    Love and hugs,

    Lisa

  6. I've been having trouble leaving comments so I hope this works....
I am a sock monkey lover down to the sock monkey flannel pajamas. The book looks fantastic. Have you seen Brad Paisley's home? One big enormous log "cabin" home. Beautiful.

  9. Socks and Doogs are smart to curl up on a lap by the fire. What could be more like paradise?

Now I really sometimes find it scary how many of my blogging friends and I are on the same wave length. I am in the middle of stitching pennies for a penny rug and on New Year's Day, I googled images to find more unusual ideas for the setting for my penny rug. I came across this book and fell instantly in love with the tear drops on the edge. I kept the link to this book which I had never seen before that day. Now here it is on your blog.

I think there is something fitting about your weather for it being winter. I hope that you don't get any flooding but can experience the joys of snuggling up for the winter. Nothing like a good book and a quilt for that! By the way, you are after my DHs heart having coffee with whipped cream. He loves doing that.

Have a wonderful weekend dear Becky!

    Hugs ~

  20. Oh the watering cans are my favorite. I am so thankful for your friendship! Thanks for the thoughts and comments as well! Thank the Lord, my back is begining to feel better! If the problem gets any worse I will head back to my doc to ask for an MRI. I am praying all goes well and I heal quickly! I am sorry to hear that you have back problems as well! I now know that it is not fun and quite frustrating! Do you need any special prayer for your back problems? Thanks again! You are oh so special~~!
