Whenever I turn the page in any of my favorite magazines or books and find a room that is all decorated in shades of whites and beige, my heart leaps. I carefully study each room, checking out every corner - taking note of the juxtapostion of each adornment that was lovingly placed here and there.
Awhile back I was visiting Deb's blog and this post caused me to nearly go into a brain warp. What is a brain warp? When the mind starts thinking so fast and taking it all in that your neurotransmitors don't fire fast enough and smoke starts coming out your ears!! Deb's style is what I am loving these days. She has a sense of mixing it all up, adding textures, lighting and objects that all meld so lovely together. Not only is she very talented, she is also a sweetheart.
Ginger introduced me to another blog, because she totally knew I would love it, and if you haven't been here before, you have to treat yourself to visiting. I don't understand the language of the postings, but the photos speak a thousand words. Her style is wonderful - how she mixes tone on tones with a touch of metal objects and greenery here and there. Very fresh and quiet.
Though having an all white sofa or chairs is completely out of the picture for me, with having a black haired doggy and a little cat that sheds, I could still incorporate a medium shade linen fabric - perhaps one with subtle tones of white in a small floral and unobtrusive pattern, like this one. With shades of white, you cannot go wrong if you want to toss is a seasonal color - like my favorite RED. Now I am thinking about the IKEA commercial that tells us girls to get out of our boring beige box and think with color. Color is good - it is all a personal choice and when we find that "style" or color that we can live with each day, then we are satisfied....for a time.
This week is so busy for everyone, but I wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving a bit early. This will be my last post until Friday, Nov. 23rd. Phyllis is having a Holiday Open House that day and I will be listing some things for sale. Also for sale will be some of our collections up on eBay - under our name Cottage*Dreams. Oh honey, can you get those pictures ready please!!!??? ~~ Till next time, blessings to all of you and thank you so much for your visits, comments and wishes. BTW, several of you have asked about everyone...my son is so much better as is Doogs. A blessing indeed!
Dear Becky,

Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteI love all of the white tones, there is something very calming about that style :) Lovely pictures! Here's wishing you and your family a very enjoyable Thanksgiving.
Huge hugs,
Dena
Hi
ReplyDeleteSo glad your son and the valiant Doogs are doing better.
I have 2 huge black German shepherds & 3 cats. I recently bought some cream colored covers from Surefit.
They are wonderful! The hair doesn't stick to them as it did to my couches, PLUS they look like brocade. AND they look better after washing than before!
So, I am having my cake and eating it, too!
Suzanne
I love those pictures. I love that look.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out that blog.
Rosemary
I love the calming peacefulness of white on white also, though I'm sure if my home were decorated entirely that way, I'd miss my colors!
ReplyDelete:)
Stop by my blog for a timewarp back to my prom today....
And Happy Thanksgiving to You too!!
Just wanted to pop in and say Happy Thanksgiving Becky!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful celebration!
xo
Becky, you are so sweet...thank you so very much for your kind comments and for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteI just adore the photos you've shared here, and I have to say the pale look is certainly popular with many people! At a decorating seminar I just gave on Saturday, almost every woman there wanted to know how to live with white!!! Everyone seems drawn to this peaceful, cozy look for winter. (Adding soft seasonal colors keeps it from boring me to sleep, tho!)
I love all your white pictures. I would take any of them! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteMichelle
Hi Becky, I love all the pictures you sahred. I would have a lot more white in my home but my husband likes wood tones. So I dream ! Also with my big family , it's a battle with the white floor in the kitchen area.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Blessings, Shelley
I mean shared !
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, Love white on white home decor, it's so elegant and calming! Happy Thanksgiving! Extra hugs from Miss Penelope and Hamish to Doogs :)
ReplyDeleteHi Becky! Wanted to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving! Sorry to hear about your son and dog but soooo glad they are on the mend and all is well! I too love white and have wanted to get pb slipcovers for my couch and chair...someday...I love it with red. cherry
ReplyDeleteLove the pics Becky! I love all white, I wish i could do it but colour always creeps in somehow!!!
ReplyDeleteI love all the pictures that you posted. Deb's home is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI, also, love the new blog you posted.
My problem is that I am very eclectic and love so many different styles and combinations of color.
We really NEED more than one home or we need to become interior decorators, so we can get see all our decorating ideas materialize. LOL

"So many blogs, so little time"
Hi Becky
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos - wherever they're from. I was never very keen on shades of white for a room, but the more I see them the more I think how beautifully relaxing they seem. Unfortunately no good for our lifestyle, but wonderful to look at.
Glad everyone is now well.

Hi Becky, I have not visited your blog in awhile and boy so much preeties and wonderful posts for me to catch up on. I do love whites too especially accented with blues. The pictures are lovely...keep posting such delights

ReplyDeleteKristy
I agree that white rooms are gorgeous, and it's amazing how many different shades of white there are.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Sleigh Ride song!
A very Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Becky, I love red and cream in my livingroom but whenever I see an all white/off white room I too think I want that look! For now I will keep my red and just dream off an all white livingroom... I LOVE the photos on your blog and the way you decorate, sorry if I've told you that before. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHugs ~Mary~ :-}
I could go in so many different directions! That is why I had to start helping other people with decorating so I could try everything!
ReplyDeleteI do love the calm look of all white, if you do it well with texture, but my husband loves cozy (as in rich woods and cozy colors) so I have to stick with what he loves! We compromise, let's put it that way! LOL! I am happy because I love just about all styles, except for minimalism.
Happy Thanksgiving Becky, to you and your family! EWWWWWW about Doogs and the rat! LOL!
Happy Thanksgiving Becky!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope it is just wonderful!
xo,
Kim

The white rooms are beautiful....but I would have to get rid of all my pets to have that.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting with baited breath to see what you have for sale Friday!
Sending you big wishes for a special Thanksgiving tomorrow. Be sure and give Doogs a little turkey treat and a hug from me.
Hugs,
Lallee
I would LOVE to have bathroom sinks like that in a dresser or cabinet. Like you, no chance I can do whites. Happy Thanksgiving! Love, Esther
ReplyDeleteOh, too much gorgeousness. What a glorious post.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that whites allow for a subtlety of texturing that you may not get with bolder colours. On the other hand, white and my four kids would be a disaster. I can only dream ...
Kate
