Safe Travels and Dishing Dirt

One day last summer I noticed my neighbor tossing in a few things into his curb-side pick up pile. An old rake was sticking up from the pile - as if to say, "Help me! Somebody take me from this pile of debris!" I walked over and asked if I could have the rake and my neighbor laughed and said something like it would make a better hand tool being as it had come loose from the wood handle.

I have seen many uses for old rake ends and at the moment had an idea of either hanging necklaces from it, using it to hold toilet paper or a picture. As you can see in the picture, this is where it landed - in my laundry room. I have a small collection of green metal garden tools and they hang rather comfortably from the old rake - probably visiting and talking dirt with each other.

The last picture was taken of Duhgall, our Scottish Terrier, at the beach in Carmel, California. He was wanting to take that ball away from the kids! With his sharp shark-like teeth, he would have had it deflated in an instance.

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope that your feet take you to someplace wonderful!

  1. Hi Becky,

What a clever idea! I love the way you have the sign perched on the rake.

  3. I am envious of your outfit. I'll give you $10 for those sneakers.
Love the rake! And Carmel? So close to my home town, Half Moon Bay. Carmel is beautiful, you lucky gal. Love, Esther

  4. Love the rake idea! I think I even have a broken rake in the garage, hum. My good friend joy has one in her kitchen with her cute aprons hanging on it. She also makes the cutest "garden girls" out of them. I will have to get her to take a picture of them and post it on her blog. Cute shoes by the way! ha ha You know I love converse!
enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  6. What a great idea for an old rake head! I am always looking for better ways to store garden tools as we don't have a shed.

  7. Hi Becky,
How great that you gave the rake a new home!

Love the picture of your sweet pup!

I did get to go to several yard sales on Saturday and I found a cupboard that will work perfectly in my bathroom! I'm going to paint it because it is very dark.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  8. What a great idea. I am so ashamed that I have still not decorated my laundry room after living here almost 6 years. I keep finding so much inspiration here; I might have to fix it up.

  9. I have the same shoes. Good taste we have!

And I have to say, while I love the rakes, I smiled at the sight of that dog looking out at the beach.

    Very fun post, Becky!

    Enjoy the weekend,
    Melissa

  10. That looks so cute with the garden tools hanging. I had a rake head on my porch wall for a while. Now I don't recall what I did with it when I took it down. Darn.

Does Dughall push large balls around like soccer? Oliver goes nuts doing it. Baggins doesn't get a turn so he just chases Oliver. Ollie pops all balls but basketballs, and they are bad choices because they rub his nose raw. We were buying a great ball from Wal-Mart for a long time but they quit selling them. We're looking for something new, so for now he is balless ;-)

  11. ROFL about Oliver being "balless!" Lallee, D. has a ball popped in under a minute. We have not tried basketballs yet. Doogs has two balls that are pretty indestructable that we bought at Pet's Smart. Poor Baggie...guess we know who is the Alpha dog in your house! xo, Becky
