What's For Dinner?

well, try this recipe out...great for a side dish for BBQ!

Last weekend we had a BBQ for our family and friends and served this dish. This recipe is from my good friend, and next door neighbor, Sherri. I asked if she had a good bean recipe and this is exactly what I had in mind.

1 can kidney beans - drained
1 can butter beans - drained
1 can green lima beans - drained (I don't like Lima beans so I added two cans of butter beans instead)
1 large can (15 oz) pork and beans - DO NOT drain

Add all of the beans to a 3 QT casserole dish. Note: You can cook the beans in a crock pot for 6 hours on low heat...they turn out better than baked in an oven....

Cut 1/2 lb of bacon into 1 inch slices. Fry until crispy. I fry them in a large pot. Then add:

4 large onions, ringed
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 cup white vinegar
1 cup brown sugar

Cook the onion mixture for 20 minutes then pour over the beans. Bake at 350 degrees for 60-75 minutes. Make sure you have a lid for your 3 QT casserole dish..otherwise it will splatter all over your oven. Messy!

Serves 8-10 people

We liked how they turned out better in the crock pot...less runny.
These are sweet and have a wonderful flavor!
