Cozy is that feeling...

Cozy is a feeling of warmth, comfort and contentment.  A bowl of soup on a cold day, a stack of pancakes for breakfast, a crackling fire in the fireplace to warm your cold feet or being snuggled up in bed with a good book and a favorite blanket.  It could be as simple as a bouquet of flowers that deliver a sweet perfume with every deep inhale.

Cozy is that feeling when something feels right and makes you want to linger and saturate the senses.  A scent or a flavor can conjure up that mood, or state of mind, that just makes you sigh and tell yourself that all is good.  A moment that your heart will remember.

Cozy is a favorite pillow, a bed layered with beautiful linens and squishy down pillows;  a stack of quilts that are worn to a buttery smoothness.  Candles burning, homemade cookies baking in the oven, a favorite pair of slippers and flannel pajamas.  Reading the morning newspaper while eating breakfast and drinking that first cup of steaming hot coffee.

Cozy is when your dogs are snuggled up on each side of you on the couch, asleep and having doggy dreams.

"As snug as a bug in a rug" is an old saying that originated somewhere in the late 1700's and basically is another way of describing a cozy feeling.  I remember tucking my boys into bed at night and saying that they are as snug as a bug in a rug and then saying a goodnight prayer with them.

Cozy is the feeling that when you walk into your home, you are happy and think "ahhh, home, sweet home".  Life is good.

I have linked Parachute Home's website in my post.  They have beautiful linens and I am seriously thinking about treating us to their beautiful linen striped duvet cover.  We are redoing our bedroom and it would be beautiful with the nautical accents that we have there.  I love the story behind the company, too.  It goes to show that if you follow your heart, anything is possible.

Signs of Spring

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to live somewhere other than where you live at this moment?  I do, and I have thought about what it would be like to live somewhere on East Coast, Mid-West, Texas and even in New Mexico.  Why?  Well, there are different reasons - such as living near the Atlantic, maybe in the Texas Hill Country, having an old white farmhouse with lots and lots of land or living in the beautiful high desert. All of these reasons sound divine, however truth be told - I am terrified of hurricanes and tornados, cannot tolerate humidity and I don't care much for snow.  And at this current time, many of you are battling tremendous amounts of snow - and, well, that just doesn't sound like a whole lot of anything but simply a huge headache.

Where I live, it does get smoking hot in the summer, but we don't have the humidity, well maybe a wee bit now and then, but nothing like east of the Rockies.  Though our state is in drought status, it still is beautiful.  Today was a bit foggy, but the sun did break later in the afternoon.  Birds played outside and chattered amongst themselves.

The roses are pushing out their new reddish green growth and many volunteer flowers are getting bigger each day.  Nothing like those freebies, like the Allysum.  We seem to have worms on steroids this year.  When I was planting the Impatiens, I found a lot of worms in the soil - more like Night Crawler size.  I felt bad cutting them in half with my hand trowel......so I covered them up with dirt and hoped that maybe they would still be okay.  Can they live with half their body?  I guess that would be a good Google search.

The sun was shining through the windows on Monday, so I snapped some photos.  I put together a little spring vignette on the entry hall table.  Duhgall sat in the Granny Chair and watched while I messed around and polished the furniture.  It always feels good to have things tidy.  Spring cleaning before Spring.  No harm in that, right?

Sugar...Sugar...

Last year my friend Wave asked if I would be a hostess for an antique club that she is a member of.  I hemmed and hawed and turned her down several times, but then caved.  I thought it would be a good motivator to get some things done in this old house of mine.  So.....last night I hosted the meeting. Though I was a bit stressed out over having the meeting and having every thing in the house "just so", the evening turned out to be lots of fun and I enjoyed having the ladies over.  Several of the gals in the group are friends of mine and others I know through the circles of being an antique vendor....aka Junker.  The program was to share items of affection, so I shared several of my favorite collections of linens and samplers and the ladies each brought something of theirs that they love and hold near and dear to their heart.  I loved listening to them talk and share.  To top the evening off, I served homemade cream puffs filled with lemon curd and delightfully sweet whipped cream.  It was a sweet evening!

My sewing room is done!  I will share that soon.....  I LOVE having my own space to create and it is just wonderful.  Just wonderful.  I wanted to make a little something to have as a raffle for the club gals, so I made up one of my "measure up to love" heart.  The heart is made from an old sugar sack and layered with lace, an old measuring tape, buttons and a crochet rose.  Filled halfway with lavender and polyfill.  They are one of my favorite things to make and I have sold them in the shops for Valentine's Day.

Pardon my absence...all is well.  Just absorbed in stuffkies here.  I've also been playing in the yard and planting annuals.  This is my favorite time of year and I'm taking advantage of it.

Till next time, toodles.

Light and Promise

The simplicity of a single white rose drenched in morning light.

Delicate.  Unassuming.

The intricacies of the petals amaze me.  Such perfection from our Creator.

Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, I am the light of the world:  he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 8:12
